Established in 1926, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is the not-for-profit educational institution that preserves and operates the restored 18th-century capital of Virginia as a town-sized living history museum, telling the inspirational stories of our nation’s founding men and women. The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation is the largest outdoor living history museum in the world. The mission of the Foundation is “that the future may learn from the past.” In addition to the historic area itself, the Colonial Williamsburg Company Hospitality Group operates a world-class resort to accommodate one million visitors annually. The Thomas Jefferson Foundation (formerly the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation) owns and operates Monticello, the mountaintop home of Thomas Jefferson and the only home in America on the elite World Heritage List of the United Nations. Incorporated in 1923, after the federal government waived its third opportunity to acquire Monticello for the nation, the Foundation purchased the house and land from the Levy family, stewards of the estate for 89 years. As a private, nonprofit organization, the Foundation receives no regular federal or state budget support for its twofold mission of preservation and education. Since 1923, the Thomas Jefferson Foundation has steadily expanded its role as a museum and educational institution. Its facilities now include the house and gardens on nearly 2,000 of Jefferson's original 5,000 acres; the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies next door at Kenwood, a headquarters for Jeffersonian research and teaching and home to the Jefferson Library; and the Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic Plants, which propagates heirloom varieties and makes them available to institutions and individuals. The David M. Rubenstein Visitor Center and Smith Education Center hosts state-of-the art exhibits for visitors of all ages. It serves as the gateway to Jefferson’s timeless Monticello, preparing guests for their trips to the historic mountaintop through dynamic content presenting fresh perspectives on Monticello and the enduring significance of Jefferson’s life and ideas. About a half a million people visit Monticello each year.

The Museum of Life and Science is one of North Carolina’s top attractions. Situated on 84-acres, our interactive science park includes a science center, a butterfly conservatory which is one of the largest in the world and beautifully-landscaped outdoor exhibits which are safe havens for rescued black bears, lemurs, and endangered red wolves. Our mission is to create a place of lifelong learning where people, from young child to senior citizen, embrace science as a way of knowing about themselves, their community, and their world.

The Virginia Museum of History & Culture is owned and operated by the Virginia Historical Society — a private, non-profit organization established in 1831. The historical society is the oldest cultural organization in Virginia, and one of the oldest and most distinguished history organizations in the nation. For use in its state history museum and its renowned research library, the historical society cares for a collection of nearly nine million items representing the ever-evolving story of Virginia. In 1931, Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, founded Brookgreen Gardens, a non-profit 501(c) (3) garden museum, to preserve the native plants and wildlife and display objects of art within that natural setting. Today, Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark with the most significant collections of figurative sculpture in the country and has the only accredited zoo on the coast of the Carolinas. Located south of Myrtle Beach, SC between Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island the gardens are open to the public daily.

Discovery Place is a private 501c(3) not-for-profit education organization dedicated to inspiring exploration of science and the natural world through extraordinary exhibits and educational programs that inform, challenge and engage audiences of all ages. As one of the leading hands-on science centers in the country, Discovery Place offers visitors the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the basics of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a fun, interactive and informal setting. Discovery Place, Inc. owns and operates Discovery Place Science, Discovery Place Nature, Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville and Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham. Discovery Place Science in Uptown is home to the Accenture IMAX Dome Theatre.

Norfolk Botanical Garden is a 175-acre non-profit museum for plants and our mission is to enrich life by promoting the enjoyment of plants and the environment through beautiful gardens and educational programs. Norfolk Botanical Garden is managed by the Norfolk Botanical Garden Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization supported by donations, membership dues, admissions & program fees. Norfolk Botanical Garden is a Virginia Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The George Washington Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, headquartered in historic Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Foundation operates George Washington's Ferry Farm and Historic Kenmore, the home of Fielding Lewis and Betty Washington Lewis. Since 1889, Preservation Virginia has preserved historic places and raised awareness of the importance of perpetuating and revitalizing Virginia's cultural, architectural and historic heritage, thereby ensuring that historic places are integral parts of the lives of present and future generations. We currently own and operate six historic sites across the state, including: Historic Jamestowne, Patrick Henry's Scotchtown, Smith's Fort Plantation, Cape Henry Lighthouse, Bacon's Castle and the John Marshall House. Without our efforts to help others understand the importance of retaining important parts of our heritage, Virginia would have lost historic sites – and the stories that go with them – forever.
