Pension Funded Status Reaches the Highest Level in a Decade

According to a new report from MetLife, the 2022 increase in interest rates improved pension funded status and provided attractive yields for sponsors looking to minimize risk by boosting their allocation to a fixed income.  

Specifically, via projections from MetLife Investment Management (MIM), the average funded status of U.S. corporate pensions reached the greatest level in 10 years at 106.3%, despite turbulent stock markets and the dramatic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.  

What’s more, the end-of-quarter average recorded a 4.0% increase from the previous quarter at 104.7%.
