A statement from Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) confirmed the recent launch of the so-called Congressional Dads Caucus, which aims to “highlight issues facing working families and advocate for policies that support all parents and children.”
According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, fewer than one in four workers have access to paid leave. What’s more, at least 20% of family income is spent on childcare by over half of parents with children under the age of 15.
The caucus’ agenda supports legislation for universally available and affordable childcare, paid family and medical leave, and other crucial issues that take a toll on working families.
“The formation of this Caucus is rooted in a simple idea: Dads need to be a part in advancing policies that will make a difference in the lives of so many parents across the country,” said Congressman Gomez in a statement. “We’re fighting for a national paid family and medical leave program, affordable and high-quality childcare, and the expanded Child Tax Credit that cut child poverty by nearly half. This is how we set an equitable path forward for the next generation and build a brighter future for our children–including my five-month-old son, Hodge.”
