Microsoft Shifts to Unlimited PTO in the Wake of Layoffs

Microsoft recently publicized its new "Discretionary Time Off" policy, which will grant unlimited paid time off (PTO) to salaried employees in the U.S.

The software business is adopting the change to adapt to evolving working methods and the increasing need for flexibility, in addition to some goodwill in the wake of the software giant’s announcement that it would lay off 10,000 employees in 2023.  

Despite the various benefits for employees, the policy benefits Microsoft too. Unlimited PTO, generally speaking, requires less administrative work for HR teams and eliminates the need to compensate employees who leave with unused time off.
