The Guide Dog Foundation empowers individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or have disabilities by providing free guide dogs since 1946. We welcome students from across the US and around the world, offering personalized instruction to accommodate diverse needs. Our operations rely solely on generous donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations—without government funding. As pioneers, we earned certification in 2009 from both the International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International. This accreditation signifies our commitment to the highest standards of dog care, education for trainers, and a consumer-friendly application process with grievance protocols.

We support people with intellectual or developmental disabilities and help them lead active, healthy, and fulfilling lives. ACA/NY serves the IDD community in New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley.

Since 1988 Alternatives For Children, a not-for-profit private school, has been at the forefront in providing educational experiences to a broad spectrum of children from across Long Island. Alternatives For Children is approved by the New York State Department of Health as an Early Intervention Program provider under contract with Nassau and Suffolk Counties, and is a New York State Preschool Special Education provider, offering both integrated and self-contained preschool classes. Alternatives For Children provides a nurturing environment for children that reflects our longstanding commitment to children, their individual needs, and our own high standards. A dynamic early childhood environment is one in which children are encouraged to be creative, explore and experiment in order to meet or exceed the criteria established for their age. Children who graduate from our program are given the tools they need to be ready to learn and be successful as they transition to the kindergarten environment. All classes are taught by New York State dually certified special education/early childhood teachers working in collaboration with certified teaching assistants. Counseling and social work services are provided by licensed/certified psychologists and social workers. Options for Community Living, Inc. is a community based not-for-profit organization established in 1982 to serve Long Islanders in need. Through housing programs and case management services, we prepare participants for the demands of community life; promote housing permanency; and foster individual health, safety, and welfare. Our programs are specialized to serve individuals with psychiatric disabilities and other serious chronic illnesses including HIV/AIDS. Options served more than 2,000 adults and children on Long Island last year.

A Head Start Organization

Founded in 1942, Boys & Girls Village serves children and families in at-risk situations by strengthening their ability to succeed in life. Through its four-pronged approach of behavioral health services, education and transitional training, permanency planning, and juvenile justice programs, BGV cares for the “whole child” to allow the youth’s development to progress in a positive direction. BGV offers in-home therapy, a special education day school for K to 12th grade, outpatient clinical services, therapeutic foster care, a residential program for youth with Problem Sexual Behavior, and multiple programs for court-involved youth. Clients come from 50 different communities throughout Connecticut, with the majority residing in Fairfield and New Haven counties. Children and adolescents who become part of the BGV family range in age from 3-18 years old often with histories of extensive abuse, neglect, or serious behavioral health disorders. Operating in four locations – Bridgeport, Norwalk, Milford, and Waterbury - Boys & Girls Village has highly skilled and dedicated staff to help Connecticut children and families heal, learn, and grow.

New Opportunities mission is to improve the quality of life for economically disadvantaged individuals by providing the necessary resources to increase their standard of living, foster self-improvement, and maximize self-empowerment. New Opportunities Inc. is the community action agency that serves Waterbury, Meriden, Torrington and 27 surrounding Connecticut towns. We offer a variety of social service programs designed to eliminate poverty and assist people in need.

Our mission is to maximize Traumatic Brain Injury survivors’ potential by providing the necessary residential and support programs to help them achieve four valued outcomes: Individualization, Independence, Integration and Productivity. We are committed to increasing public awareness of TBI and its consequences. As a result, HIA offers innovative and effective solutions to many of the problems head injured survivors and their families are faced with. The Head Injury Association is an independent, not-for-profit agency, widely recognized for its innovative programming for survivors of head injury and their families. We seek to increase public awareness of TBI (traumatic brain injury) and its consequences, and thereby obtain some solutions to the many problems facing Long Island’s survivors and their families. We strive, by political and educational means, to ensure that head injured individuals have all requisite medical, rehabilitiation, vocational and recreational systems available and are able to live with dignity in a comfortable and accessible environment. When the crisis of head injury suddenly occurs, each family’s reaction and means of coping will be different. We recognize the devastating impact of TBI and provide a network of services specifically designed to meet the initial and lifetime needs of survivors and caregivers facing this crisis. Milestones, formerly Connecticut Center for Child Development, began by addressing a largely unfulfilled need amongst CT families for autism resources and grew into an organization of more than 200 highly trained, passionate professionals who are always looking for new ways to grow and help families achieve results. Milestones isn’t simply a school or an evaluation center. We are driven to advance the field of Behavioral Analysis by cultivating new practitioners and educating others about the field. When we see a need arise, we learn how to address it. Applied Behavior Analysis is the only treatment endorsed by both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the U.S. Surgeon General. Milestones dedicated staff work across multiple locations — including our 3 campuses, in public school settings, at homes, or in the community – to provide individualized behavior analytic programming; consultative services; adult day services; and diagnostic and educational evaluations for families. We aslo provide advanced intervention services for individuals with intensive behavior challenges. We assist others looking to initiate or further develop similar programs in other states or countries. We provide mentorship to those seeking certification as a BCBA or BCaBA as well as Special Education teachers. We provide education and training to the wider community including educators, doctors, dentists, first responders, and many others. At Milestones, our focus is on enabling individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities to be valued members of their communities by living lives with purpose and joy.

Alliance for Community Empowerment, Inc. (ACE) is a nonprofit corporation ACE's mission is to strengthen under-served communities by assisting the individual through education, vocational training, leadership development, and community engagement. Through knowledge and self-discovery the individual becomes empowered and a community becomes stronger.
