BALANCE AUTISM
BALANCE AUTISM
Altoona, Iowa
100-499 employees
In 1991, a group of parents and professionals in Iowa came together to create new living and working opportunities for adults with autism. They researched other programs around the country and talked with experts in the field of autism. From these efforts Balance Autism took root. When founded as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in 1994 it was named The Homestead because its earliest program focused on a working farm where adults with autism could live and work, raising fruits and vegetables. Since that beginning 25 years ago, Balance Autism has evolved. Our capabilities have broadened. Our staff has increased. We now serve persons of all ages. As the field of autism research has evolved, we’ve brought its most effective solutions to the persons and families we serve. Today, Balance Autism offers services to more than 300 children and 150 adults annually; employs 400 highly trained and devoted staff members and has an operating budget of $21 million. And yet, as much as we’ve grown, our mission has remained rooted in our core value: to provide balance in the lives of those with autism. If you are interested in learning more about our services, if you are interested in joining our team and helping children and adults with autism learn and grow, check out www.BalanceAutism.org.

GOOD NEIGHBOR SOCIETY
Manchester, Iowa

The Good Neighbor Society (GNS), a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), encompasses independent living, assisted living, post hospital rehab, memory care, long term care and hospice care all on one campus to facilitate your retirement. GNS is comprised of 11 local churches of differing denominations and one associate member. Each church appoints members to the advisory board for the GNS leadership team. Good Neighbor Home In 1961, seven Lutheran churches began the design phase for the Good Neighbor Home. Plans were approved and construction began in May 1962. The Good Neighbor Home opened to the first residents on July 1, 1963 with 55 beds, forming the current South End. Throughout the years Good Neighbor Home has expanded and been remodeled to serve 113 residents. The Meadows The Meadows began with 24 assisted living apartments to serve the Delaware County Community in March 2000. With this addition, the Good Neighbor Home became the Good Neighbor Society. Due to increasing demand for assisted living services, 6 additional apartments were occupied in July of 2009. Marietta's Place During 2010, the Good Neighbor Society answered another calling, which was to serve those with early to moderate stages of dementia. Marietta's Place, which opened in January of 2011, has served as a safe haven for many Delaware County families as their loved one faces a dementia diagnosis. Neighborhood Villas In 2016, the Good Neighbor Society broke ground for 19 independent living condos. These maintenance free homes have rounded out our community to offer a custom solution for any stage of retirement. Into the Future We continually look for ways to enhance the lives of those we serve and to find areas of need in our community. When an area of need is identified, we assist in creating a common goal.
