The Conference Board interviewed more than 100 members of Gen Z to better understand what employers can do to best attract, engage, and optimize the efforts of this generation, which is expected to make up one third of the labor force by the midpoint of this decade.
The report notes that Gen Z’s top priority is compensation, which often isn’t kept a secret in the age of social media and mass sharing/oversharing, and these Zoomers expect to be paid market value for their work. Next most important is control and a sense of agency, which is why flexibility in work, schedule, and professional development opportunities are essential from Gen Z's perspective.
Gen Z also maintains high expectations for an organization’s leadership to actively reflect the organization’s stated values in terms of employee treatment and interactions, which will be scrutinized.
