In 1958 Frances McGlannan began her historical quest into the world of the child with specific reading/language learning difficulties, into the world of DYSLEXIA. McGlannan, an accredited, evidence based private school, accommodates each child’s learning style, respects their dignity and builds self-confidence. To maximize each student’s potential, we begin remediation as soon as possible by offering admissions throughout the year. Our students, of average to superior intellect, are challenged by dyslexia or related language based learning difficulties. ADHD may be present as a secondary diagnosis. We are not structured for students with behavioral or emotional disorders. Our goal is to prepare each child to successfully mainstream while fostering self-esteem. Our delivery system is based on professional testing and in-house evaluations enabling prescriptive and coordinated individualized instruction for each child. We approximate the academic criteria of prominent mainstream schools and maximize each student’s potential in an educational environment free of undue stress by providing small student to teacher ratios, multisensory clinical instruction in all subject areas and 1:1 prescriptive and intensive instructional sessions provided by trained reading clinicians. A sensory integration program is structured for our youngest students and our middle school students develop secondary level skills to meet high school expectations. McGlannan School maintains an exceptional and highly educated teaching staff trained in the effective use of McGlannan School’s specific multisensory educational methods in the classroom and the reading clinic. Strategies and compensatory skills are reinforced while considering each student’s profile of strengths and weaknesses. Ongoing staff development enriches our teachers’ abilities to meet the educational and emotional needs of children with dyslexia and related learning differences.
