Dignity and Power Now (DPN) is a Los Angeles based grassroots organization founded in 2012 that fights for the dignity and power of all incarcerated people, their families, and communities. Our mission is to build a Black and Brown led abolitionist movement rooted in community power towards the goal of achieving transformative justice and healing justice for all incarcerated people, their families, and communities. Grounded in the principles of abolition, healing justice, and transformative justice, we have multiple programs centered around activism, health and wellness, and leadership building, including a coalition to end sheriff violence, a coalition to stop jail construction, an arts and wellness collective, a rapid response team of healers, a leadership institute for high school aged youth affected by incarceration, a leadership institute for people coming home from prison, a reentry program inside Soledad State Prison, and an influential media department. Immediate campaign focuses include establishing comprehensive and effective civilian oversight of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and allocating the money from LA County’s 3.5 billion dollar jail plan into mental health diversion programs and community resources. Dignity and Power Now is founded and chaired by Black Lives Matter Cofounder Patrisse Khan-Cullors and is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

I was responsible for the day-to-day accounting procedures and operations for this non-profit private foundation including: Monthly and year-end financial reporting, income tax filings and acted as the main liaison with the independent auditors, recognition of revenue/royalties, managing expenses, payroll, cash management and management reporting. In addition I prepared annual business property statements and city business tax renewals, renewal and maintenance of employee and business insurance, kept track of the employee accrued sick and vacation time off, instituted Direct Deposit, 401(k) Retirement Plan, Long Term Disability, Life and AD&D Insurance as part of the employee benefit package and finally I was responsible for the duties of the office manager during the absence of the Foundation's President.

As one of the largest medical societies in the United States, the Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) keeps a close eye on changes in health care, serving a “watchdog” role on local, state, and national legislation as it affects medicine. Today, health care consumers are bombarded with varying ideas about health care, bioethics, health planning, emergency services and reimbursement policies. OCMA has established committees to study these and other current health care concerns. OCMA provides physicians with the opportunity to keep in contact with each other, discuss new technologies, exchange clinical information, and learn of the environmental changes in medical care that are sweeping the nation.
