The Travelers 2023 Impact Injury Report reveals that more than 1 out of 3 on-the-job injuries happens to employees who have been on the job for less than a year.
Upon examining more than a million and a half workers compensation claims that were filed between 2016 and 2020, the authors of the report determined that 34% of all injuries as well as 34% of all worker compensation costs involved employees who had been in their position for less than 12 months.
Age was also determined to be correlated to injury incidence and injury expense, which were least common but also most expensive for employees age 60 or older.
The most common type of workers comp claim filed was overexertion, which accounted for nearly 3 out of 10 of all claims surveyed, while trips, slips, and falls combined for nearly one quarter of all claimed accidents.
