Dawn Fay, operational president with Robert Half International, answered a round of questions concerning economic, job market, and operations-related issues.
One of the most resonant points Fay raised involved the changing mindsets of job candidates as the market cools and economic downturn potentially looms larger on the horizon. While there are still a great many candidates making moves in a market that remains exceptionally active, Fay notes that many applicants do carry concern that they - as a new hire - would likely be first to be let go in the event of layoffs, which is an additional consideration that is now shaping impactful decisions about candidates’ and companies’ futures.
As for the future of fully remote work, Fay believes that market is continuing to shrink as more employers seem to want employees to come into the office for at least a few days a week, especially if they are early in their career or their tenure with the company, although Fay also acknowledges there has is still significant pushback from employees and applicants alike.
