The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Organization released its forecast for the 2023 hurricane season, and there is a 40% chance that we’re in store for a season right on par with the baseline average.

The expectation is that there will be 12 to 17 storms that meet the minimum requirement to be given a name, of which between 5 and 9 will likely rise to the level of hurricane classification with winds above 74 miles per hour.

Estimates call for between 1 and 3 major hurricanes over the course of the season.
