Employee Paid Time Off Policies for North Dakota Employers

Paid time off, or leave, across vacation days, sick days, and holidays is an important component of most employer benefit packages in North Dakota. Regulations may differ from business to business depending on their size. The structure of your employee plan might have a significant influence on retention and competitive hiring

Should North Dakota Employers Offer Consolidated Paid Time Off Plans?

The first consideration is whether you want to provide a single amount of time for vacation, sickness, or personal business. A consolidated leave plan offers a single duration of time for staff to use for vacations, illness, or other personal business needs. Workers who do not have consolidated leave plans often maintain separate vacation arrangements for distinct reasons. Consolidated leave plans have been on the rise in recent years. Consolidated leave packages are available from 49% of businesses in North Dakota.

A combined leave plan, also known as a paid time off (PTO) policy, combines both sick and personal days. This provides employees more options and the employer greater flexibility. At five years of service, 22 vacation days are offered in a consolidated plan while just 15 vacation days are available after 10 years. For North Dakota employers, the average number of leave days in a consolidated plan is 22 at five years of service and only 15 after 10 years. The average for consolidated leave plans is 25 at 10 years of service, whereas the average for paid vacation is 17
