In 1983, a group of civic-minded residents, concerned for the well being of seniors in our community, set upon a path to expand services to local seniors. By providing congregate meals, home delivered meals, transportation, nutrition education and information and referral we give seniors the opportunity to remain independent in their own homes. We believe that Senior Dining Sites and Nutrition Programs such as ours can be much more than the first step in providing long term care for the seniors in Jefferson and Hardin counties. In addition to providing meals, a network of volunteers and staff monitor the well being of our recipients during a daily visit. That visit provides comfort and company to the seniors and peace of mind to their family and caregivers.

SERJobs is a community-based, non-profit organization helping individuals from low-income communities transform their lives through education, training, employment, and financial empowerment services. SER serves over 4,000 people annually throughout a 13-county region (including Harris, Fort Bend, and Galveston Counties) and offers tailored services for youth/young adults (16-24), veterans, ex-offenders, families, and individuals. Montgomery County Women's Center is a non-profit company based out of Montgomery County, Texas, that provides crisis intervention, assistance, advocacy, and empowerment to survivors of domestic abuse.

In the State of Texas, 1 in every 4 children lives in poverty and about 15% of the elderly in Southeast Texas live in poverty. We partner with over 130 non-profit agencies and schools in the area to fight against the crippling effects of chronic hunger. We serve the counties of Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Jasper, Newton, Polk, Sabine, and Tyler and distribute to approximately 130 nonprofit agencies within these eight counties. Our partner agencies preparing meals provide approximately 90,000 meals to people in need each month. Although our efforts are paying off, your continued support is vital to our ongoing struggle. For 33 years, Target Hunger has carried out its mission to alleviate hunger and its root causes in the impoverished northeast Houston neighborhoods we serve. We focus not just on immediate food aid, but also on addressing the systemic, underlying causes of poverty that lead to food insecurity. Target Hunger a United Way agency, is one of Houston’s largest organizations providing direct food distribution to food insecure seniors, children, and families who face the risk of going hungry every day. In 2021, Target Hunger distributed more than 1.5 million meals to more than 16,000 individuals. All of our work is made possible by generous donors and volunteers.

The ultimate goal of Fifth Ward CRC, is to create a positive image of the 5th Ward community that attracts investment from homebuyers, homeowners, business, and government. The finished product is the blueprint for the development of a healthy community – a place where it makes economic and social sense for people to invest time, money, and energy, and creates social and economic impact. Fifth Ward CRC is governed by a diverse 13-member board lead by Dr. Micahel Emerson, and Rev. Harvey Clemons as Founder. Kathy Flanagan Payton serves as the CEO. Through partnerships and collaborations, the FWCRC is positioned to excel in program related activities. Hands of Healing is a non-profit Organization committed to make a difference in the lives of Children, Youth and Families, by seeding Health, Happiness and Hope, one home at a time. Our Organization provides a wide array of social services to underserved and "at risk" communities, serving multiple contracts with the Texas Department of Family Protective Services (DFPS) and Texas Health and Human Services (HHSC). We currently operate two General Residential Operation facilities, providing services to 33 male youth, in Baytown TX, and 30 male youth in Harlingen TX, ages 8-17, . Each program is regionally, demographically and culturally supportive and serve the needs of youth who are a ward of the state, from all regions of Texas. As an Organization providing wraparound services, Hands of Healing possesses a license and contract(s) with the state of Texas, to provide Foster Care credentialing. This includes, marketing and procuring potential Foster Parents, providing Foster Home development, provide Foster Parent training with the goal of placing, ages 1 day to 17 years old in suitable Foster homes. Our agency is licensed to provide these services in both our Houston and Harlingen offices. In June of 2020, we will also be contracted with the state of Texas to complete adoption services. Our contracts for Substance Abuse, Substance Use, and Evaluation and Treatment with the state, as well as our contracts with Medicaid and multiple Managed Care Operations are our primary referral source for clients in need of therapeutic services. These services include individual and group therapy, outpatient drug treatment, drug education, anger management, parenting classes and much more. These services are currently available onsite in our Baytown office and will be available in our Harlingen office by July 2020.
