The Gutterman Company of Memphis, TN
George Patterson founded Patterson Insulation Company in December of 1976. Offering batt and blown insulation to residential and commercial customers. In March of 1977, George became the new owner of the Gutterman Company. George knew that name branding and name recognition were key elements in business success and growth, so he worked hard to promote the Gutterman name. In the early 1980's, he found a used Giant Food Store giant statue that was for sale. Since the grocery store was no longer in business, he figured it would make a perfect symbol that everyone could relate. Of course, it received a new paint job and a piece of gutter in his hands, instead of the two grocery bags it had held previously. Call a professional sign and a police escort and the next thing you know, a legacy is born. Fast forward to 2010, and the Gutterman "Giant" has a reputation of its own. It was even featured in a book, Memphis Delivering the Future (pg248).
Thirty-five years later and George Patterson still owns the Gutterman Company in Memphis, Tennessee. He folded Patterson Insulation into the Gutterman and eventually he quit doing any insulation work. Today, his son, Brian Patterson, is involved in the day-to-day operations and together they still run a successful business. The Gutterman Company is a licensed General Contractor in the State of Tennessee. The Company now offers roofing, siding, replacement windows and many other home improvements.
