Our goal is to promote the highest standards of funeral service to the public while enhancing the environment in which our members operate. The New York State Funeral Directors Association Inc., (NYSFDA), based in Albany, NY, is among the oldest associations of funeral directors in the United States. Founded in 1889, the NYSFDA assumed its current name in 1933 and now serves roughly 900 members and more than 3,000 funeral directors. NYSFDA members are funeral firms, owners and employees licensed to offer funeral services by the State of New York. Membership benefits include regional meetings throughout the state, a monthly newsletter, updated industry information and compliance materials, mandatory annual OSHA training, topic-specific seminars and other educational programs, and an annual convention and tradeshow. NYSFDA also features a library of published material to help educate consumers about end-of-life issues and to assist funeral directors helping families. The NYSFDA office is home to the NYS Tribute Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting education, outreach and research programs that advance the public's understanding of end-of-life issues. The Foundation uses its philanthropic resources to stimulate research, improve and support professional education, increase public outreach and sponsor forums to foster policy dialogue on important end-of-life issues. NYSFDA members are eligible to participate in PrePlan, a leader in preneed trust fund management offering complete security and flexibility for both consumers and funeral directors. Membership enables enrollment in the Directors Choice Credit Union, (DCCU) which provides banking for funeral association members nationwide. DCCU services are availed to national, state or local funeral service trade association members and their families, including many in livery services. NYSFDA maintains a blog, SympathyNotes.org, and several Social Media pages.

ANIMAL PROTECTIVE FOUNDATION
ANIMAL PROTECTIVE FOUNDATION
Schenectady, New York
25-49 employees
WHO WE ARE The Animal Protective Foundation is a humane society providing services to Schenectady County and the greater Capital Region. Since 1931, the APF has held true to the mission of its founders. We have an open admission policy which ensures that animals are not turned away based on their breed, age, condition, or circumstance. We accept owner relinquished cats, dogs and small animals and stray cats from Schenectady County residents. We request a minimum donation of $25 per animal at the time of intake or surrender. The APF cares for upwards of 2,500 animals each year. OUR MISSION The mission of the Animal Protective Foundation is to promote and protect the human-animal bond by providing resources to our community and humane care to companion animals. OUR VISION Our vision is a community where all companion animals are loved, respected and receive exceptional care. OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ANIMALS Upon arrival, animals receive an incoming exam and are vaccinated against distemper, rabies, and other diseases. They are also treated for fleas, worms and other parasites, as needed. Then they are given time to settle into their new surroundings and provided with comforting amenities, such as blankets, beds and toys. Prior to spay/neuter surgery, cats over 6 months old are tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency (FIV) and cats under 6 months old are tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) only. Dogs are tested for heartworm, Lyme disease, ehrlichia and anaplasma (both tick-borne illnesses). The average cost of care we provide for each dog and cat is $250. We get to know our pets through behavioral assessments so that we can place them with adopters whose lifestyles best match their needs. Staff members and volunteers provide daily exercise, enrichment, and socialization for the animals.
