UNITED WAY FOR SOUTHEASTERN MI
UNITED WAY FOR SOUTHEASTERN MI
Detroit, Michigan
100-499 employees
We mobilize the caring power of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan to improve communities and individual lives across Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Macomb counties in measurable and lasting ways. IN OUR REGION, NEARLY 40% OF HOUSEHOLDS STRUGGLE TO MEET THEIR BASIC NEEDS. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic hit Southeastern Michigan, families in our community were struggling. Now, the situation is dire. People are struggling to find jobs, or they’re working, but not making enough to provide for their families. Parents are forced to choose between feeding their children and paying the rent. Senior citizens have to go without prescriptions. Children struggle to keep up in school. College students have to go without health care. This is a problem in every city in our region — and the problem is growing. This affects your neighbors, coworkers, and friends. This is everyone’s problem. Without stable households, children will never be able to thrive. And if children aren’t thriving now, they won’t be prepared to build stable households in the future — or a stable community. Together, we can break the cycle. At United Way, we work to build communities where all households are stable and every child can thrive.

GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF GREATER DETROIT
GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF GREATER DETROIT
Detroit, Michigan
500+ employees
Here at Goodwill of Greater Detroit, we build pathays to independence through personal development and the power of work. Founded in 1921, Goodwill Detroit has delivered best-in-class personal and workforce development programming to Metro Detroit returning citizens, youth, and residents who have been chronically under or unemployed, and those living with mental illness or intellectual/developmental disability. What many people don't know about us, is we have a long and successful history with social entrepreneurship outside of our fabled thrift stores. We operate 2 wholly-owned subsidiaries, Goodwill Integrated Solutions, a Tier 1 automotive assembly and kitting business, and Goodwill’s Green Works, providing asset recovery and industrial recycling services. We use these businesses to generate profits that may be reinvested in the mission of the organization, long-term employment opportunities for trainees with significant employment challenges, and transitional work experience for trainees needing time on-the-job before transitioning to competitive employment. There is a lot of good going on here! Employment is more than a paycheck - it's a resounding victory: for the individual, for their family, for their community. When jobs thrive, communities thrive. We know this because we've seen and celebrated it here for 100 years.
