Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. We serve children in Cumberland and York County and are one of over 300 BBBS agencies affiliated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. We believe every child has the inherent ability to succeed in life. Some children, however, need a little more help. A little more listening, a little more one-on-one attention, a little more involvement with positive role models...and that just what we provide. We make and support matches between adult and high school volunteers ("Bigs") and youth ("Littles") between the ages of 7 and 18. We provide training and support to every match. In just 18 months of Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring, littles in our program are - more engaged in their schoolwork - have better relationships with family and friends - have a new perspective of what's possible It doesn't happen by itself. Both funding and volunteers are essential ingredients. BBBS relies totally on gifts from individuals, businesses, Foundations and partnership with the United Way to support the entire match process, from initial screening through professional ongoing match support. We can't do what we do without you!
