Atlas Excavating, Inc. specializes in deep and difficult utility installation. We have been in business since 1980 and primarily perform underground utility installation such as watermains, forcemains, sanitary and storm sewers, and lift stations through conventional cut & cover (trench excavation) techniques and through trenchless methods such as directional drilling. Atlas also performs excavating work and has constructed various types of road projects. Our customers include various state and local government agencies, private residential and commercial developers, and general contractors. We work primarily in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Kentucky. Cecilia along with her husband Tom Slusser, was operating a garden store, nursery, as well as a landscaping and lawn maintenance company by the turn of the decade. It was in 1976 when Samuel C. Gray, a pioneer in the seeding and sodding industry, approached the Slusser family about taking over his business. Sam Gray wanted to retire, but was determined to see his business carry on and had built a trusting relationship with the Slusser family. Flood Testing Labs, Inc. is a family-owned full service construction materials testing and inspection company in Chicago. Founded by Walter H Flood in 1913 in response to a desire for more structural oversight and safety in the Chicago market, Flood Testing has weathered the Great Depression, two World Wars, a family schism, and come out the other side as one of the most respected and most highly certified testing labs in the Midwest and the United States as a whole. The company was highly involved in the development of high-strength concrete in the 1960s and 70s and likes to remain on the cutting edge of construction technology and implementation. As such, FTL was among the first two labs nationally to submit itself to (and pass) the rigorous review of ISO 17025 certification through AMRL. Flood Testing's field technicians are highly skilled and certified and prove to be an asset on any forward-thinking project they find themselves. In recent years, FTL has focused on International Building Code work and has created a culture of ICC certification among its staff. Flood Testing specializes in construction inspection and geotechnical design in the Chicago market, but performs consulting and specialty work worldwide.
