The legendary Cherry Hills Country Club has hosted 12 major tournaments during its storied 93 year history and is perennially listed in the Top 100 clubs in the United States. Most recently the Club hosted the 2014 BMW Championship that included the top 70 professional golfers in the world. The tournament was named PGA Tournament of the Year for the 3rd year and raised $3.5MM for the Evans Scholarship Fund. The Club hosted the 1960 US Open which many golf historians consider to be one of golf's best ever tournaments that produced Arnold Palmer's only US Open win against the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan. Palmer stormed back on the final round making birdie on 6 of the first 7 holes and with Ben Hogan's bogey on 17 & 18 Palmer won his first and only US Open. OUR HISTORY & VISION Special Olympics was founded in 1969 on the belief that people with intellectual disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports. Special Olympics believes that consistent training is essential to the development of sports skills, and that competition among those of equal abilities is the most appropriate means of testing these skills, measuring progress and providing incentives for personal growth. Special Olympics also believes that through sports training and competition, people with intellectual disabilities benefit physically, mentally, socially and spiritually; families are strengthened; and the community at large, both through participation and observation, is united in understanding people with intellectual disabilities in an environment of equality, respect and acceptance.
