As outlined in this piece from Tech.co, Amazon’s efforts to get corporate employees working back on-site have been a case study in what not to do.
Last month, Amazon’s announcement that it would require employees to return to the office at least 3 days per week was met with considerable resistance from the affected employee pool.
In an attempt to address some of the chief complaints from those who oppose the move, Amazon hosted an internal FAQ session, but many issues appear to linger still.
For example, Amazon expressed that it was willing to accommodate employees who had moved away from their previous job location until they were able to relocate back or until they could be placed with a team closer to their current location, but these are majorly disruptive events and there is no indication how long Amazon is willing to be accommodating.
Further, the fact that even employees who have no other team members at their worksite are still being required to meet the on-site requirements casts these measures as more punitive than rational in some sense, which exacerbates the friction these measures are causing.
