The US Department of Labor announced $44.2 million in grants last week aiming to provide workers in some of the poorer, rural areas of the country access to the skills and education necessary to pursue job opportunities that had previously been out of reach.

The areas targeted by this funding include Appalachia, the Mississippi Delta, and the Northern Border regions, where the money will largely go toward partnering and supporting existing community groups and local workforce development organizations who already share the mission and whose efforts can be amplified through the additional capital.
