About Oberto Snacks Inc: You could say Art Oberto was born to make jerky, but truth is, he didn’t actually take over the family business until he was sixteen. Every day before school, Art would ride his bike to deliver the finest cured meats anyone in the Seattle area had ever tasted. As a company, we’ve changed a lot since those humble beginnings, but the way we make our delicious all-natural jerky hasn’t. We still hand-select each ingredient and compose our rich, smoked flavor from a harmonious mixture of delicious hardwoods. And Art still won’t put his name on the outside of a single package, unless he approves of everything that went into it. Today Oberto Snacks Inc. provides innovative, delicious, healthy and convenient protein-packed snacks. Employing more than 500 food professionals, Oberto’s mission is to empower people to make better choices for a healthier and happier life. National Frozen Foods Corporation is a global supplier of high-quality Northwest fruits and vegetables. With over a century of experience, mostly family-owned, National Frozen Foods produces $200M+ in sales annually, employing up to 2,500 people during peak processing season. As Accounting Manager, I supervise seven direct reports, and work closely with other departments to ensure sound financial management. Clear verbal and written communication is key to my job, both in presenting formal financial reporting on a weekly and monthly basis, and in interacting with my team and other colleagues. My skill set involves being able to communicate effectively with everyone, whether I’m explaining financial issues to our CEO, presenting an idea to senior management, coordinating with the Sales Department to analyze client profitability and offer advice on customer retention, or working with the Controller to plan and maintain our budget. My areas of expertise include cash management, bank reporting and compliance, 1099 filing, census, and workers’ comp. I am the go-to expert in the company for interim and annual audits, and assist with yearly insurance renewals. Key Achievements: • Change Management: I lead my staff through two buy-outs, gathering due diligence, and keeping them informed and motivated during the transition. • Staff Development: In addition to cross-training my staff, my motivational leadership style improved morale, and resulted in a staff eager to grow their own skills. • Systems Improvement: I transitioned accounts payable to a paperless system, shaving 3-5 days off the vouchering process. • Innovative Solutions: I worked with the Sales Team to develop a margin analysis allowing us to immediately assess the impact of a bid on live bidding and contract negotiations, resulting in the most profitable year in company history: $17.5M net income. • Cost Reduction: I cut annual property taxes by $150K by researching and identifying tax exemption programs.
