View a complete list of our locations at positiveplace.org CLUB HISTORY In January 1943, a riot involving more than 100 teens broke out on the corner of 85th and Greenwood in Seattle. Police responded to the incident and looked for an answer to the overall issue of juvenile crime and vandalism, a growing problem in the community. In response, Deputy Joe Woelfert opened the first Boys & Girls Club (originally called the Boys Club) in Washington State—the North Seattle Boys & Girls Club. The Club was a great success, and within two years, eight Clubs sprouted up in the area. Today there are 35 Clubs around greater Seattle, each one focused on enriching the lives of kids every day.

We offer our Club kids an array of fun and educational programs at all of our seventeen Clubs, as part of the flat membership fee these programs are available to all Club members. Our targeted programs offer young people new opportunities to learn and grow. We nurture our member’s individual strengths, helping them to succeed inside and outside of the Club.

For more than 50 years, ArtsFund has strengthened the community by raising funds from individuals and businesses to support the region’s nonprofit arts sector through grants and other organizational assistance. Through its allocations process, ArtsFund has distributed more than $100 million in grants to a broad range of more than 100 arts groups in a wide variety of disciplines and scales throughout Washington State. ArtsFund's grants provide general operating support--typically the most difficult funding for the groups to find, and arguably the most critical.
