A private, nonprofit organization, Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia provides services for older residents in Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, and Isle of Wight and Southampton counties in Virginia. Entering our 49th year, Senior Services is the regional Area Agency on Aging, supporting and enriching the lives of seniors and their families through advocacy, education, information, and comprehensive services. Our mission is to "help seniors to live with choice and dignity in their communities."​ For nearly half a century, Senior Services has changed the lives of tens of thousands of the region’s seniors for the better. We’ve served over two million meals, contributed more than six million hours of senior volunteer services, driven seniors over 11 million miles, and helped thousands of seniors live in their homes independently as an alternative to nursing home care.

Stratford Hall brings together people from around the world to experience two-thousand acres of natural and human history, preserved and presented so that we can all learn from the courageous struggles of our ancestors, taking inspiration both from what they endured and what they accomplished. Established by Thomas Lee in the 1730s, Stratford Hall is one of the great houses of American history. An important part of the Stratford Hall experience is an opportunity to learn about the courage and leadership of Richard Henry and Francis Lightfoot Lee as they signed the Declaration of Independence, and with their family, helped give birth to the United States of America. Visitors can also earn about other Lee family members, like Hannah Lee Corbin an outspoken thinker and one of our nation’s earliest known proponents of voting rights for women. And they can learn about the birth and early years of Robert E. Lee, who rose to become superintendent of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, a leader of the armies of the Confederacy, and president of Washington College. At Stratford Hall, visitors will encounter two-thousand acres of natural and human history, preserved and presented so that we can about our past, from prehistoric times to today, and we can honor the courageous struggles of our ancestors, taking inspiration both from what they endured and what they accomplished. The Elizabeth River Project is a growing non-profit organization leading the effort to restore the health of our historic urban river, while affirming her value to our region’s maritime economy. Formed by four concerned citizens over a kitchen table in 1991, our organization is a collection of community members, businesses, governments, students, educators and public servants working together to Do Something Beautiful by restoring our home river. We prefer to celebrate the Elizabeth River’s revival rather than lament its past. To that end, we rely on the power of partnership – rather than lawsuits and finger-pointing – to accomplish our restoration goals. That philosophy has become an international model for collective action, and led the Stanford Social Review to cite the Elizabeth River Project as one of the country’s best examples of convincing disparate interests to work together on a community project.
