Established more than 120 years ago, Columbia Country Club is a private, member-owned club, formerly known as Columbia Golf Club. The Columbia Golf Club was organized on September 29, 1898 by nine men with a mission to promote "educational, literary and scientific purposes; social activities and mutual improvements; and to support athletic exercise, outdoor sport and amusement." The first location of the Club was on the east side of Brightwood Avenue, later known as Georgia Avenue, in the neighborhood of Schuetzen Park. In a short time, the Club moved to a site further north on the west side where a vacant lot was converted into a crude nine-hole golf course. The Columbia Golf Club was disbanded following the last round of golf on December 31, 1910. At the time, 200 of the 600 members became supporters of the newly created Columbia Country Club.

In 1908, a group of businessmen calling themselves "The Westwood Club"​ longed for a challenging course on Cleveland's west side, where they could "put on our comfortable togs and play a round of golf, or, when we like, put on our best clothes and have a real party"​. This group of founding fathers included John Zangerle, Mortimer J. Weber, John Crider, John Hinz, Robert Reid, and John Kerlin. The Westwood Country Club Company was incorporated February 1914. The original golf course property was completely redesigned by Charles Hugh Alison, one of the foremost golf course architects of the day and a partner of the prestigious international firm, McKenzie, Colt, & Alison. The course was finished in June 1926 and used for the first time in the State Tournament of that year. Many of golf’s greatest names have enjoyed playing Westwood over the years including legends Bobby Jones and Arnold Palmer, who holds the professional course record of 64. Westwood Country Club’s state-of-the-art clubhouse opened in 2009 and features modern amenities in a luxurious, colonial revival style building. The golf course showcases the natural beauty of the property with acres of expertly manicured fairways and greens, along with beautiful natural stone bridges and water features that complement the scenic and challenging design. Members enjoy all the Club’s amenities including the Olympic-size Swimming Pool, Kiddie Pool, Clay Tennis Courts, massive Lounge Patio, Banquet Facility, Gazebo Veranda, Dining options, and all the fantastic events for those of all ages. What began as a dream among a handful of golfers 100 years ago is today considered one of the finest country clubs in northeast Ohio.

From the modest beginnings in 1924 to our new 64,000 square foot Clubhouse, Belle Haven has grown to meet the needs of its members. The Clubhouse offers a variety of dining options including formal and informal restaurants. For special occasions and meetings, Belle Haven offers a beautiful ballroom with views of the golf course. We host banquets and meetings in our spacious Potomac Room with spectacular views of the Potomac River. As the Club approached the 21st century, an ambitious Master Plan was developed to update and enhance the many wonderful recreational facilities of Belle Haven Country Club. What began as a modest 9 hole golf course and clubhouse along the Potomac River in 1924 has grown into a private, full service country club boasting an 18 hole golf course designed by world-renowned architect, Arthur Hills. We offer complete golf practice facilities and a full service Golf Pro Shop. Our Athletic Facility houses a complete fitness center and aerobics room along with 5 indoor DecoTurf tennis courts, Tennis Pro Shop, Children's Activity Center, seasonal swimming pool, men's and ladies' locker rooms with steam and sauna, a year-round restaurant known as the Center Court Cafe and the famous outdoor Sharks Cafe open throughout the summer season. As the nation’s first nonprofit organization dedicated to the management and operation of municipal golf courses, the Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation (BMGC) has become a model for municipal golf operations nationwide. For over 20 years, BMGC’s Classic Five courses Mount Pleasant, Pine Ridge, Clifton Park, Forest Park and Carroll Park have provided millions of golfers the opportunity to play where legends have played. PGA and LPGA hall-of-fame players, Arnold Palmer, Nancy Lopez and Jim Thorpe all began their careers on BMGC’s courses and this proud golfing heritage continues on today. BMGC’s has been honored with numerous awards, including the Reilly Award, a national distinction awarded to the best “Model of Change” in parks and recreation. Other municipalities such as Seattle, Indianapolis, Houston, Denver, Nashville, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Philadelphia, New York and San Antonio have sought BMGC’s assistance in managing their municipal courses. Just as importantly, the company has over 500 youngsters enrolled in its Junior Golf program. BMGC has also donated more than $4 million toward City youth programs, assists with SuperKids programs for at-risk youth, and provides First Swing clinics for persons with disabilities. BMGC continues its mission of providing affordable, quality golf to the citizens of Baltimore with courses that have been recognized by GolfDigest, Golf World, the United States Golf Journal, and The National Golf Foundation. Nowhere in the tri-state area can golfers play on well-manicured courses from under $25 to $35 - a remarkable fee that includes a golf cart.
