FIGHTING HUNGER AND FEEDING HOPE IN SAN ANTONIO AND SOUTHWEST TEXAS. The San Antonio Food Bank takes pride in fighting hunger, feeding hope in our 16 county service area. We believe that no child should go to bed hungry, adults should not have to choose between a hot meal and utilities, nor a senior sacrifice medical care for the sake of a meal. Founded in 1980, The San Antonio Food Bank has quickly grown to serve 58,000 individuals a week in one of the largest service areas in Texas. Our focus is for clients to have food for today but to also have the resources to be self-sufficient in the future. We give active older adults a sense of purpose through volunteering; we provide resources and support for family caregivers; we fiercely protect residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and we improve the financial security of all older adults through employment assistance, frauds, and scams education and money management.

The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a top-ranked nonprofit hunger-relief organization operating a state-of-the-art volunteer and distribution center in Plano— the Perot Family Campus. Last year, the Food Bank worked hard in partnership with member agencies from our Feeding Network to provide access to almost 77 million nutritious meals across a diverse 13-county service area— this means more than 200,000 meals per day for hungry children, seniors and families. But the need for hunger relief in North Texas is complex and in order to meet the need the NTFB is working to increase our food distribution efforts. The mission of Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) is to improve the lives of abused children in Dallas County and to provide national leadership on child abuse issues. DCAC coordinates the investigation and prosecution of the most severe cases of child abuse in our community. Last year DCAC served over 7,300 children (and their non-offending family members) who were sexually abused, severely physically abused, or who had witnessed a violent crime. DCAC provides a warm, child-friendly environment to help children who are referred by law enforcement or CPS. Our average client is a 9-year-old girl, sexually abused by someone she knows and trusts.

The Center for Child Protection, a nationally accredited children’s advocacy center, is the first stop for children in Travis County who are suspected victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse and for children who have witnessed a violent crime. The Center is a child-friendly, specially-equipped facility where children go for recorded forensic interviews, medical exams, counseling and intervention during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases. It is the only nonprofit in Travis County involved in the investigation of crimes against children. All services are provided to children and their protective caregivers at no charge and most are available in English and Spanish. Children are referred to the Center for Child Protection for services exclusively through law enforcement and Child Protective Services when one or more of the following circumstances have occurred: - A child made an outcry of sexual abuse. - A child has experienced physical abuse. - A child has witnessed a violent crime.

A central clearinghouse for donated food and groceries, Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) receives fresh, frozen and nonperishable food donated by the food industry and the community. Dedicated volunteers help sort, inspect and repackage the food, which is then distributed to our network of 270 Partner Agencies serving hungry children, families and seniors in North Texas.
