After five years of endless meetings and small fundraising activities, the group received a charter from Goodwill Industries International and the agency officially opened its doors on October 16, 1979, with the name Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina, Inc. Dorchester Children's Advocacy Center, Children In Crisis, Inc. was founded in 2003, is a nationally accredited Child Advocacy Center by the NCA-CAC standards and a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving abused and neglected families from Dorchester and Berkeley Counties in the state of South Carolina. Our center provides a coordinated, evidence-based response to allegations of child abuse and neglect. We work with children who may have experienced any type of abuse or neglect such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, child neglect, drug endangerment, witness to domestic violence, and safety precaution. Since opening our doors, we have served over 12,500 children and their families. The Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center works in collaboration with partnering agencies for the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse. Our partnering agencies include Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, Mental Health, School Districts, and many more. All the agencies come together at our Child Advocacy Center to provide a “one-stop shop” and child friendly location for children only have to tell their story of abuse once, rather than each professional involved with their case. By coordinating services among partnering agencies, it prevents further trauma to children and their families. Mission: To provide a coordinated, research-proven response to child abuse that reduces trauma for the children and families in our community in a safe, child-focused environment. The mission of East Cooper Community Outreach is to provide safety net services to our low income neighbors, while empowering them to create a better future for themselves, their families, and our communities. ECCO provides emergency assistance for food, clothing, household furnishings, and financial needs. As well as, ongoing services including medical, dental, prescription drug assistance, education and counseling. All programs and services strive to guide clients toward self-sufficiency. ECCO's ministry of "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" attempts to improve the quality of life in our community in a compassionate way that respects the dignity and worth of every person.

East Cooper Meals on Wheels is a community-based non-profit of service to residents who are homebound or unable to provide their own meals. The daily delivery of a meal couples as a friendly visit and safety check. Our efforts help with the three biggest threats among the aging and those in recovery from serious injury or illness: hunger, isolation and loss of independence.

For more than 26 years, Palmetto Community Care, formerly Lowcountry AIDS Services, has been serving men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. PCC provides case management, access to medical care, housing assistance, financial assistance, nutritional assistance and legal assistance along with an array of other supportive services to hundreds in the Charleston area. PCC also works to prevent this epidemic through education, media campaigns, community outreach and free, daily HIV/STD testing. Mission Palmetto Community Care is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for persons living with HIV and AIDS and to providing HIV prevention resources and programs for schools, churches, community organizations, and the workplace in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties. In carrying out this mission, PCC strives to: • Provide practical and emotional support to people with HIV/AIDS, their families, friends, and loved ones. • Educate the public about HIV and AIDS and its prevention, actively confronting discrimination when it interferes with compassionate care for clients. • Act as an advocacy, resource, and referral agency for people affected by HIV and AIDS. • Work cooperatively with and provide assistance to the healthcare community and social service organizations. • Represent the needs of people affected by HIV and AIDS on a local, state, and national level; ensure their fair and equitable treatment; and secure sufficient resources.
