LSG is a radical yet simple market-based solution to a systemic national problem: Food Equity. At its heart, Lowcountry Street Grocery (LSG) is a self-sustaining social enterprise that engages resilient, innovative business tools to rebalance and bolster our local food system. LSG leverages the sales of high demand healthy, high-quality, local food to directly address the need for the same for neighbors that need it most. We call it Robinhood Economics. Through strategic sliding scale, nutrition programming, & SNAP/EBT incentives, we ensure that where you live & how much you earn do not predetermine your family’s wellness. Access to healthy, affordable food is a right, not a privilege. Channeling energy via charitable solutions solely can exacerbate inequity, devalue communities, and ultimately create increased gaps and false dependence.

Star Gospel Mission is Charleston’s oldest not-for-profit Christian welfare organization, serving the homeless and needy in the community since 1904. We provide transitional housing for homeless men and respond to the needs of the community by offering food, clothing, rental assistance, utility assistance, emergency medical and transportation assistance. We provide help to the needy by responding to their temporal needs and by sharing the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who are seeking a spiritual transformation in their lives. Our principal response is to homeless men who are working, or who have a steady source of income, such as: veterans, or those who are disabled or who may be receiving unemployment.
