UNITED WAY OF THE COLUMBIA-WIL
UNITED WAY OF THE COLUMBIA-WIL
Portland, Oregon

United Way of the Columbia-Willamette has been bringing our community together to do good for nearly 100 years. We connect the people, nonprofits, businesses and government agencies addressing poverty in our region. Our region’s poverty rate is down, yet poverty is still growing for too many kids. We continue to struggle with helping the kids who need it most stay in school and graduate. And, our region’s housing crisis has many families on the edge. The system is not working for ALL of our region’s kids which has an effect on all of us. We’re working hard to create a future where kids in our region are free from instability and worry so they can be free to play and discover, free to learn and grow. Free from poverty. Free to reach their potential. Together, we will continue to accomplish a lot for kids, families and communities: • More kindergarteners will show up prepared for school. • Kids who need help the most will stay in school and graduate on-time. • Families' basic needs will be met so their kids can focus in school. • We’ll keep connecting 1000s of volunteers to things that matter in our region. These strategies work when our community is UNITED behind them.

NHA's mission is to create opportunity through housing. We build and rehabilitate affordable housing for Oregonians earning low incomes including seniors, families and people with special needs. NHA also operates the Annie Ross House shelter for homeless families with children and provide rapid re-housing and stabilization services through our HomeBase program. Home is a place of safety and retreat, a place where family and community can grow. For some Oregonians with low incomes, having a place to call home is out of reach. Low wages or fixed incomes combined with the high cost of housing forces these families to choose between rent, utilities, nutritious food, medications and other basic necessities. NHA is working to provide new opportunities through quality affordable housing.

We’re building a socially just and equitable future for kids. Children’s Institute has always worked passionately to improve outcomes for Oregon’s kids. Since our founding in 2003, we’ve come to know that a brighter future for our state rests on a foundation of love and care for every child and family. Love sometimes requires a reckoning. We have to grapple with a difficult truth: many policies and practices designed to address economic inequity do not meet the needs of children of color and children living in rural communities. We’re committed to shifting these systems toward justice. And we invite you to join us.

For nearly 30 years, Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives, Inc. (PCRI) has reinvested in Portland’s neighborhoods, preserved their diversity and provided tools to help low-income Portland families achieve stability and self-sufficiency. From our original task of helping people who were unknowingly swindled out of their homes, PCRI has come a long way. Still the challenges are constant–as is our presence as an anchor of stable, diverse and livable Portland neighborhoods. With over 700 units of affordable housing, PCRI’s unique mix of single-family homes, small multi-plexes and community apartments represents one of the last stable opportunities for low-income households to remain in their vibrant Portland neighborhoods. These homes and apartments are woven into the fabric of their neighborhoods and are a model for eliminating concentrations of poverty. Our Mission: Preserve, expand and manage affordable housing in the City of Portland and provide access to, and advocacy for, services for our residents. Our Vision: Housing meets essential human needs. PCRI’s vision is to provide affordable housing and associated services that achieve family stability, self-sufficiency and resident wealth creation.
