LEATHERMAN TOOL GROUP, INC.
LEATHERMAN TOOL GROUP, INC.
Portland, Oregon
500+ employees
Out here in Oregon, we’re used to getting things done—you could call it our pioneering spirit. It’s why Leatherman Tool Group is proud to support U.S. workers who, just like our founder Tim Leatherman, are dedicated to the quality craftsmanship that goes into each of our original American multi-tools. After spending his childhood in Oregon, Tim Leatherman stayed local and received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University. A low-budget, post-college trip abroad, which included many fix-it situations, convinced Tim of the need for a pliers based multi-purpose tool. Once back home in the states, Tim set to work developing his idea. On July 5, 1983 Leatherman Tool Group, Inc. was officially incorporated based on a few simple principles: manufacture quality products that deliver excellent value to the consumer while providing good, living-wage jobs to the local workforce. More than thirty years later we’re still going strong in the U.S., in our home town of Portland, Oregon. Every multi-tool and knife we make is crafted by one of the 600 Oregonians who call Leatherman a great place to work, and we stand behind our products with a no-questions-asked 25 year warranty. When asked about the company’s devotion to quality, Tim always replies, “It has to be perfect; my name is on every tool.” We’re proud to live and work in the USA and it shows in every original multi-tool and knife we make. Leatherman. Leave nothing undone.

GUTTERMANS SUPPLY CORPORATION OF AMERICA
GUTTERMANS SUPPLY CORPORATION OF AMERICA
Portland, Oregon
25-49 employees
The Gutterman Company of Memphis, TN George Patterson founded Patterson Insulation Company in December of 1976. Offering batt and blown insulation to residential and commercial customers. In March of 1977, George became the new owner of the Gutterman Company. George knew that name branding and name recognition were key elements in business success and growth, so he worked hard to promote the Gutterman name. In the early 1980's, he found a used Giant Food Store giant statue that was for sale. Since the grocery store was no longer in business, he figured it would make a perfect symbol that everyone could relate. Of course, it received a new paint job and a piece of gutter in his hands, instead of the two grocery bags it had held previously. Call a professional sign and a police escort and the next thing you know, a legacy is born. Fast forward to 2010, and the Gutterman "Giant" has a reputation of its own. It was even featured in a book, Memphis Delivering the Future (pg248). Thirty-five years later and George Patterson still owns the Gutterman Company in Memphis, Tennessee. He folded Patterson Insulation into the Gutterman and eventually he quit doing any insulation work. Today, his son, Brian Patterson, is involved in the day-to-day operations and together they still run a successful business. The Gutterman Company is a licensed General Contractor in the State of Tennessee. The Company now offers roofing, siding, replacement windows and many other home improvements.
