Mission: To move families at risk for or experiencing homelessness into sustainable, permanent housing in our community through a continuum of support services. Each year in Wake County, 5,500 individuals experience homelessness, including nearly 4,000 children in Wake County schools who will not have a place to call home at some point during this school year. Family Promise of Wake County is working to bring those numbers down to zero. Since 1993, Family Promise has provided services to 1,500 Wake County families.  With the expertise of our full-time staff of social workers, assistance from more than 3,500 volunteers and support from more than 50 partner congregations, we help families regain their independence through shelter, meals, case management and educational services. Dementia Alliance of North Carolina seeks to improve the lives of North Carolinians impacted by dementia as well as empower their caregivers through support, education and research. Each program is built on a foundation of CARE that provides Comfort, Assistance, Resources and Education for individuals and families living with dementia. As a result, we are able to provide a high degree of personal support throughout the entire journey with dementia. Dementia Alliance is a 501c3 nonprofit organization serving families in North Carolina. About Our Programs: Dementia Navigation: Our Dementia Navigator determines the individual needs of incoming families. As a result, we are able to provide personalized information, referrals, and other forms of caregiver assistance. Education: We provide in-person and online education for families and professional caregivers. By attending these workshops, conferences, and support groups, caregivers experience reduced stress and improved quality of life. Music & Memory at Home: An evidence-based program that helps people living with dementia find renewed joy and connection through music. Local Research: We fund local research of dementia science and care options. Lastly, we envision North Carolina as a “state of caring” for caregivers and individuals living with dementia.

Meals on Wheels of Durham, Inc. is a non-profit agency committed to enhancing the quality of life for eligible homebound adults in our community. Our mission is to serve the elderly, frail, disabled, convalescing and others who cannot provide proper nutrition for themselves. Dedicated volunteers deliver lunches to our clients each weekday, with the objective of improving the nutritional status and health of these individuals. It is our goal that this combination of nutritious meals and social contact will help our clients to remain independent as long as possible.

Equity Before Birth is a Black maternal health charity organization, improving maternal health outcomes and saving lives through sponsorship and partnership. We supplement income in the absence of paid leave benefits and promote financial security by covering the cost of critical perinatal support and education services. We intentionally partner with local organizations to provide direct service to families and wrap families around additional support. In short, we fuse birth justice with economic justice to save lives.

Life Experiences, Inc. provided a day-long vocational and social program for adults with developmental disabilities. I supervised and trained a small staff of employees at the Life Experiences Thrift Store. I developed and implemented vocational and behavioral service plans for the employees.
