Founded in 1983, the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies is one of the world’s leading independent environmental research organizations. Areas of expertise include freshwater, the ecology of infectious diseases, environmental chemistry, invasive species, and climate change. Studies by our scientists have been instrumental in informing the Clean Air Act, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and environmental management practices throughout the Northeast, including the Hudson River, New York’s Catskill and Adirondack forests, and the watershed of Baltimore, Maryland. Hallmark projects include studies of the impact of acid rain on forests and freshwater ecosystems, unraveling the relationship between biodiversity loss and emerging infectious diseases, and tracking how climate change influences the spread of invasive species. The Seeing Eye, Inc., pioneers and innovators of dog guide services, provides specially bred and trained dogs to guide people who are blind. Seeing Eye® dog users experience greatly enhanced mobility and independence, allowing them to retain their active lifestyles despite blindness. The Seeing Eye is a philanthropy, established in 1929, and is supported exclusively by contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations, bequests, and other planned gifts.

Serving children with a wide range of developmental, intellectual, and complex learning disabilities throughout the New York metropolitan area, SINAI operates eight special education schools, each integrated within a partner mainstream Jewish day school or high school. SINAI students are full, participating members of their inclusive partner school communities.
