The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania is the largest nonprofit food distribution organization in northwest Pennsylvania and the only food bank in the region. Second Harvest solicits, receives, inventories, stores and distributes millions of pounds of grocery products each year to hundreds of nonprofit member agencies that directly serve people facing hard times in 11 counties. Member agencies that receive food from Second Harvest either have emergency food or non-emergency food programs. Emergency member agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, Produce Express mobile food pantries, Military Share – a Produce Express Program, School Pantries, BackPack Program sites, Kids Cafes, Senior Box sites and emergency shelters. Other member agencies are nonprofit organizations that provide social services to low-income people and also serve snacks or meals to their clients. Examples include childcare centers, group homes and drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers.

The Saturn Club is one of Western New York’s premier social clubs. Founded in 1885, Saturn today has 460 members and is located in a beautiful 1920 Tudor Revival building on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo. It offers fine dining, banquet facilities, meeting rooms, and recreational and fitness facilities and programs.

A not-for-profit professional association with 3,800 member attorneys and judges in western New York, the Bar Association of Erie County was founded in 1887 to “cultivate the science of jurisprudence; to promote reform in the law; to facilitate the administration of justice; to elevate the standard of integrity, honor and courtesy in the legal profession and to cherish the spirit of brotherhood among the members thereof.” A small group of attorneys came together in 1886 to develop a preliminary resolution for the formation of a local bar association. Their stated purpose was “maintaining the honor and dignity of the profession, cultivating social intercourse among its members and increasing our usefulness in promoting the due administration of justice.” While the practice of law has changed dramatically over the past century, the mission of our Bar Association has not.
