The American Camp Association, New England is a not for profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting and enhancing the quality of the summer camp experience. The MDSC offers a broad array of programs to serve people with Down syndrome and their families throughout the state. These include: Two major annual conferences that draw national and international experts in their fields and participants from across New England. Our Buddy Walk® Program that gives individuals, schools, community groups, and local businesses an opportunity to get involved in fundraising campaigns and events year-round. Self-Advocate Programs like Advocates in Motion and our Self-Advocate Advisory Council, which provide opportunities for teens and adults with Down syndrome while making empowerment a central component. Other programs like our Diversity Outreach & Support Program and our affiliate programs Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome (D.A.D.S.) and the Down Syndrome-Autism Connection that serve the entire Down syndrome community. As we have over the past nearly four decades, the MDSC will continue to ensure that all individuals in Massachusetts with Down syndrome are valued, included, and given every opportunity to pursue fulfilling lives.

We accelerate research to increase availability of therapeutic, diagnostic, and medical care options. We empower families through education, connections, and support. LuMind IDSC is the largest online Down syndrome community and the leading organization supporting translational research for Down syndrome. We significantly empower families through webinars, information, online focus groups and regional recreational events. We partner with health and biopharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, NIH and other public institutions to create more opportunities for improved health and independence for all people with Down syndrome. In the last 15 years, we have granted $20 million to fill a funding gap for Down syndrome research, identifying several therapeutic targets to improve health and cognition. In 2018, LuMind launched the first clinical trial network – DS-CTN – to accelerate the development of treatment options for Alzheimer’s onset, sleep apnea, and other prevalent conditions for people with Down syndrome. Since 2008, LuMind IDSC has provided online peer-to-peer support and caregiver resources to an international community of more than 250,000 members as well as provided regional recreational family events in the United States and Canada for more than 5,000 members. LuMind IDSC works diligently to meet the emerging needs of the Down syndrome community. We strive to reach families who are unaware of the significant research progress that needs their support to be translated to medicines and interventions while tackling a growing interest for quality research and medical care content and education for their followers.

The Grassroots Fund plays an integral role in supporting local action and connecting and sharing trends from grassroots groups and the community. Our participatory grantmaking and Guiding Practices - Rooted Innovation, Shifting Power in Decision-making, Equity in Participation, and Centering a Just Transition - ensure that groups grounded in their community are receiving funding for projects and work that are most needed and will have the largest impact - especially groups that traditionally find barriers to accessing resources. We're also working to fostering collaboration among groups to build networks of support and innovation that will allow the region to thrive. The Grassroots Fund knows that it can be difficult for small, nimble grassroots groups, working directly with their community to find funding and other support resources, that's why we strive to make grants as accessible as possible by supporting ad-hoc groups with no 501c3 status, in addition to traditional tax exempt groups and work intimately with each groups that needs assistance. Our grantee network has over 2,200 unique groups, which work across the spectrum of social and Environmental Justice issues and is continuing to grow.
