Cathedral High School has been part of the Indianapolis community since 1918. Northwest Passage is dedicated to restoring hope through innovative mental health services for children and families. Since 1978, Northwest Passage has been a leader in the development of programs and services for children and adolescents who are struggling with the profound impact of mental illness and severe behavioral disorders. Northwest Passage’s mission and underlying goal has always been to provide highly individualized and comprehensive care to at-risk youth on the verge of failing out of society and facing the prospect of years of incarceration and institutionalization. Programming includes guidance, direction, individual and family counseling, social services, special education, adventure challenges, restitution and community service, vocational training, and aftercare services. Clients in the Northwest Passage programs participate in school, physical activities, life skills training, therapy, and community service activities on a day-to-day basis. We serve approximately 500 at-risk youth each year. We have 3 residential treatment programs and a facility providing 30-day clinical assessments.

Co-founded and performed all business management functions for this 12-bed residential care facility. Personally generated funds and negotiated financing with SBA. Selected and purchased original facility, inventory, and furnishings. Oversaw physical upgrades to assure code compliance. Developed and implemented policies and procedures. Recruited and trained staff. Created and implemented management and accounting systems. Extensively researched federal and state employment law to assure compliance with all jurisdictions. Effectively work with such state agencies as Departments of Social & Health Services, Employment Security, and L&I. Assure all records are in compliance and accessible. Have achieved virtually perfect facility audits each year. Regularly update knowledge of changes in law and trends in the industry. Consistently upgrade policies, procedures, and practices to reflect changes and improve service. Established a record of quality, which resulted in expanding into a larger facility to accommodate growth. Recognized as both a model business and residential facility as well as a “good neighbor” by the community.
