Meals on Wheels began service in 1977 in southern Lake County, Indiana as part of the Visiting Nurse Association. At that time, meals were obtained from hospitals and nursing homes and delivered to individuals in their home. As our program continued to grow, it was necessary to open a central kitchen to prepare meals for our clients. In 1993, we purchased a building in Crown Point . We outgrew the facility in 2002 when our meal count numbers grew to over 1,200 meals daily for clients living throughout Lake County and in 2006 moved to our current location.

For over 30 years Family Rescue has been dedicated to eliminating domestic violence in the Chicago community by providing comprehensive support services and shelter to victims of domestic violence, particularly abused women and their children; engaging in advocacy to promote future system change; and encouraging prevention through community education. Family Rescue operates for core programs: Ridgeland Apartments and Children's Program (RAP), Rosenthal Family Lodge (RFL), Community Outreach (COR), and Legal Advocacy (LAP). RFL is an emergency shelter for abused women and their children. It houses our 24-hour bilingual crisis line. RFL is the only domestic violence shelter located on Chicago's south side. Programming assists families in breaking the cycle of homelessness due to violence by providing trauma sensitive counseling and case management, and help in the transition to permanent housing. RAP is a subsidized supportive housing program with an on-site after school program. This program is a national model which operates under the theory that women with children who are traumatized by domestic violence and are then forced into homelessness have very specific needs and face unique barriers in developing and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle. LAP supports a victim's attempt to end a violent relationship by gaining access to the criminal justice system and act on behalf of victims and their children, ensuring their safety and rights are protected under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act. Staff members provide court accompaniment, advocacy with law enforcement and judicial personnel, assistance in obtaining orders of protection and crisis counseling. COR provides portable domestic violence services that go to where victims gather in the community in addition to providing on-site services. Services are provided in both English and Spanish. Group counseling is offered at several locations in the city and suburbs.

Respite Care, Inc. is a nonprofit organization in Larimer County that provides short-term care for children with developmental disabilities, giving respite to parents and enhancing the quality of life for the entire family. Founded in April 1981 by a group of parents of children with developmental disabilities. These parents responded to their own needs, with a realization that other families were experiencing the same challenges. After a year of planning and preparation, Respite Care opened its doors in April 1982. Today, Respite Care provides programs and services for over 140 families in Larimer County and delivers more than 50,000 hours of care annually. We provide before and after school care, enhancement programs, overnight, vacation and crisis care up to 14-days for families in need. Respite Care believes that a child with a disability is a child first and his or her challenges are secondary. With this mission and philosophy in mind, Respite Care strives to create an interactive and safe environment that meets the physical and emotional needs of each individual child.

The Arc of Northern Virginia is a local chapter of the largest non-profit organization supporting thousands of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. Our service area includes the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church; and Arlington and Fairfax Counties. We are a small, grassroots, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a local volunteer board of directors. We receive some funding for the direct services we provide, but we are largely supported by membership dues and donations.

The Crisis Center exists to end domestic violence through advocacy, education, and prevention; while helping communities live free of violence. Advocacy: The Crisis Center tirelessly advocates for our clients and community as it relates to ending violence. Empowerment: The Crisis Center seeks every opportunity to ensure our clients have the inner strength to be sustainable. Prevention/Intervention: The Crisis Center seeks to establish and provide useful resources to mitigate all of the circumstances that lead to violent outcomes. Service/Education: The Crisis Center offers a wide variety of programs, events and ways to learn how to end the cycle of violence.

Programs are staffed by experienced professionals whose training is typically in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or Education. The agency will not refuse service to any one because of an inability to pay; nor will the Family & Youth Services Bureau discriminate in providing services on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual preference, national origin or handicap

True To Life Foundation is a nonprofit community based organization that is committed to the administration and operation of youth and family programs that will empower Chicago communities. Our programs promote positive self-awareness through crisis intervention, education and restoration.
