Family Service & Guidance Center (FSGC) is dedicated to meeting the unique mental health needs of children and families and providing training opportunities for behavioral health professionals. FSGC was established in 1904 to help Topeka flood victims. As the needs in our community have changed, so has our focus. Today, Family Service & Guidance Center’s experts work closely to provide carefully tailored direct clinical services, prevention education and outreach to nearly 12,000 children and teens living with anxiety, depression, ADHD and other mental health issues and their families from 38 Kansas counties each year. FSGC is a recognized leader in children's mental health, employing 260 staff members on a centralized three-building campus and a Crisis Resolution Program building. Family Service & Guidance Center offers a broad range of services, including outpatient therapy; child and adolescent psychiatry; an anxiety treatment program; a therapeutic preschool for children ages 2-6 with severe emotional and behavioral problems; the Youth Development Program for school-age children and teens; crisis services available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; Families Supporting Recovery for adolescents dealing with mental illness and substance use issues; community-based services, including case management; Transitions to Adulthood Program for young adults with mental illness; and the popular Happy Bear abuse prevention program.

The City of Kearney adopted the Council-Manager form of government in 1950. Under this system, the City Council acts as Kearney’s legislative and policy-making body and appoints the City Manager as their chief executive officer. At Community Alliance, our sole focus is, and always has been on adults with mental illness. Since 1981, this fact has separated us from more traditional social service agencies and treatment centers in the Omaha area. We are an organization of over 250 dedicated, concerned professionals and volunteers who believe in the potential of recovery for all individuals with a mental illness and we dedicate all our resources to support the journey of each individual we serve. We work to provide programs and opportunities to encourage individuals to develop the strengths and skills to deal with their mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorder. Additionally, we serve as an advocate with doctors, social service networks, and throughout the community. We go outside the walls of the hospital and our own facilities to support people in their own neighborhoods and communities, where the strengths and confidences we have helped them develop can be put into practice. We advocate with government and others for greater access to the life-restoring services and needed policy changes that can ease the journey being traveled by so many individuals with mental illness and their families. And we work to help erase the stigma and myths that still surround mental illness and which still serve as roadblocks along the road to recovery.

Valeo Behavioral Health Care is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Topeka and Shawnee County since 1967 and is the designated mental health authority for Shawnee County. In 2001, we changed our name from Shawnee Community Mental Health Center to Valeo Behavioral Health Care. Valeo is Latin meaning “to be well”. Valeo was originally established as a result of the Community Mental Health Center Act in the 1960’s for the purpose of securing mental health grants. Today, we offer 24-Hour crisis services, and provide mental health, primary care, substance abuse, and problem gambling addictions treatment services for adults. We provide community outreach to partnering agencies, area hospitals, the Shawnee County Jail, law enforcement, and individuals in their homes. We are nationally accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Valeo Behavioral Health Care serves over 7,000 people each year. We are involved in evidence-based practice research, providing valuable outcomes information to the University Of Kansas School Of Social Welfare, which is working to develop best practice treatment models for mental health recovery.
