We Are A Full Service Paving Company Sunflower Paving, Inc. has been in business since 1982. The company originally was founded as a flatwork company, but expanded into many facets of commercial concrete including everything related to horizontal concrete. The concrete division specializes in municipal and private civil work including curbs, sidewalks, paving and handicap ramps. In February 2009 Sunflower purchased Asphalt Improvement Corporation (AIC) which had been in business since 1976. The asphalt division at Sunflower Paving specializes in county highways, municipal street overlays, parking lots, and asphalt patching. In early 2010 Sunflower added a milling division with the purchase of a new milling machine. The company also added a saw cutting division in the summer of 2010. The year was 1951 and the reason was the "Big Kansas Flood". Max, George and John Rieke ventured into the excavating business. It was somewhat of a part time business. It began as a truck farming business. A high-loader and a dump truck were the only pieces of equipment. As the time passed the truck farming business descreased and the excavating business increased. Today Rieke Brothers is run by Leon Rieke, Max’s son, and by Tom and Steve Rieke, George’s sons. The equipment list has grown to over 400 pieces and employees range from 100 to 180 depending on the time of the year.
