During life’s most challenging moments, EveryStep’s family of community-based health care and support services offer compassion and guidance. EveryStep is the same independent, non-profit organization with the people and programs Iowans have trusted for decades. Our family of community-based health care and support services offer compassion and guidance during life’s most challenging moments. Today, our organization serves more than 60,000 people annually across 45 counties and dozens of programs. We have grown in our ability to offer care and support to people during vulnerable moments and difficult times. We have truly become stronger together. However, our programs have been known under many different names – programs like HCI Hospice Care Services, Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa, Amanda the Panda, HCI Giving Tree, VNS Home Care, Community Voices, Hospice With Heart, VNS of Iowa Wellness, Stork's Nest, Storybook Project – and many more. With so many different names for our organization's many programs, it’s been challenging to share a common story about our great outcomes and our growing impact. Every program is important. Every program contributes to our mission. However, to the people we serve, our programs haven’t appeared connected to each other because they haven’t shared a common name. Until now. Going forward, all our core programs are renamed under the “EveryStep” name, demonstrating our unity as an organization and a clear connection between our many services. We believe “EveryStep” not only envelops the wide range of services our organization provides but also conveys the comfort, care and reassurance we offer at every stage of life. We empower individuals, support families and strengthen communities. When people face life’s most difficult moments, we are with them, at EveryStep.

IOWA HOME CARE, LLC
West Des Moines, Iowa

We believe in the power of home. We believe people can be healthiest and happiest in their own homes. We also know that sometimes people need a helping hand to stay in their homes. With the assistance of a Nurse, Home Health Aide, or Therapist, people can thrive in their own homes as long as possible, avoiding hospitals or long term care facilities. This is our passion, and it’s why in 2004 Iowa Home Care was founded. What started as a small office in West Des Moines serving Central Iowa, has grown into four offices across Iowa, and we’re still expanding. Our purpose remains the same; to give clients choice in who assists them in their home, provide top-notch care, and do so with love and respect. At Iowa Home Care we make all of our decisions based on our Mission, Vision, and Values. These were not created as part of a marketing exercise, only to be filed away and collect dust. We revisit our beliefs daily and plan and provide care based on them. This is the only way to make sure we’re doing what’s best for our clients. Our Mission, Vision and Values, and the attention we pay to them, keep us client focused and ultimately ensure our own success. Our Mission compels us to provide effective, professional care and to enhance the lives with which we’re entrusted. Our Vision reminds us that we must provide services that improve our client’s quality of life and refresh their spirit. Our Values guide us to be Professional, Loving, Dedicated, A-Players. These are the standards to which we hold ourselves accountable. A client is never just a “number” to Iowa Home Care. Because we consciously incorporate our Mission, Vision, and Values into our actions, we don’t lose sight of the client as an individual entitled to expert and loving care. LATANYA'S STORY On December 7, 1973, Latanya Smith was born to her unwed 15-year-old mother, Bernice Wiley, and spent the first three years of her life happily living with her grandmother. In December of 1976, Latanya was taken to the hospital by her grandmother with bruises and other injuries. After an investigation of the incident, Latanya was placed back into the custody of her grandmother while Bernice, her mother went through counseling, yet there was no counseling for Charles Johnson, the mother’s boyfriend and the man who had beaten the three-year-old girl. On January 17, 1977, Bernice completed her counseling, and Latanya was placed back into her custody. Although no one can ever know the pain three-year-old Latanya may have endured, we do know that on February 14, 1977, Latanya was pronounced dead from physical abuse. It took three weeks for Charles Johnson and Bernice Wiley to end the life of the little girl. Latanya’s case went to the grand jury, where we then learned that Latanya had been beaten, burned and bitten by Charles, her fingers were pinched with pliers, and she had been beaten with a broom so badly that the broom broke into pieces. We learned, that an autopsy completed after death, showed that her tissues were saturated with blood, and that she had died from internal hemorrhaging caused by abuse. We learned that, at the age of three, Latanya had lost the will to live. Bernice had been so afraid of losing her boyfriend that she did nothing to stop the abuse and Charles actually took pleasure in the pain inflicted upon Latanya, as she was another man’s child. Three members of the Jury and other concerned community members were so moved by Latanya’s case, that the Council was formed. We are an EEO employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status or any other characteristics protected by law.
