The organization of the Sheltered Workshop for the Disabled, Inc. (SWS, Inc.) was established to answer a need within the Triple Cities for a facility to provide employment opportunities for the disabled people of the area, who, because of their limitations were unable to obtain jobs in regular industry. The mission statement includes the following goals: To assist diversely-abled persons in attaining their highest level of personal, social, and economic independence, through a multi-disciplinary individualized plan, based upon principles of self-determination. To advocate, mentor, and provide a network of services, including rehabilitation, training, and job placement which would foster community inclusion, and improve an individual’s quality of life in the least restrictive environment. To provide sheltered employment opportunities. To provide competitive employment opportunities. To accomplish this mission as a private, non-profit company to minimize any financial burden on our society.

The Larrabee Center, Inc. is a 501(3)c nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting persons with disabilities and the elderly to become or remain valued members of the community. The Larrabee Center provides Home and Community Based Services under the Brain Injury, Intellectual Disability and Elderly Waivers as well as Habilitation Services to individuals in their homes, employment sites, and the community to increase overall independence and inclusion. The Larrabee Center owns and operates Trinkets & Togs Thrift Stores to support services and provide work experience for individuals with disabilities and transition aged youth.

CUCCC was formed on July 1, 1993 with our Westridge Thode/Rouse center. CUCCC is a private, non-profit child development center. The corporate partners include Central Rivers AEA, Veridian Credit Union, Cedar Falls Schools and Waterloo Schools. In 1998, we opened our Valley Park center and our Nordic Drive center in 2002 and our Orchard Drive center in 2019. Our staff include, Degreed Early Childhood Teachers and Assistant Teachers, experienced laypersons, parents and education major students from local universities and colleges. Our staff is trained in Early Childhood Development, Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter, Universal Precautions and are First Aid and CPR (Adult, Child and Infant) Certified. Our centers are nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We serve children who are 6 weeks old through the summer following the child’s 4th grade year. We offer preschool and a school age program. We offer developmentally appropriate activities in small and large group settings designed to enhance the social, emotional, intellectual, language and physical development of each child served. Mission Statement: New Horizons Shelter and Outreach Centers provide safety and services to adults and families who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and harassment so that they can make decisions about the lives in a supportive, nonjudgmental, and empowering atmosphere. We promote the concepts of non-violence and equality through intervention, prevention and education. Philosophy New Horizons Shelter and Outreach Centers oppose all forms of dominance over others. Our collaborative community effort is an integral part of a broader social justice movement. We support the right of people of all ages, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, social class or differing abilities to live without fear, abuse and violence. The Outreach Program engages volunteers in business, civic organization, faith based organizations, schools, government agencies, and other nonprofits to package nutritious meals for the hungry. Outreach is unique in that it has 3 meals created for domestic use in the U.S. Those meals were designed by Iowa State University's Food Science department to be nutritious and tasty. A meal packaging event is a tremendous way to engage people of all ages in the fight against hunger in a festive and satisfying way.
