Christian Opportunity Center is a nonprofit organization that provides people with disabilities the opportunity to reach their fullest potential by integrating Christian values in teaching skills for life. Founded in 1969, COC provides residential and vocational support and services to 290 people with disabilities in Marion, Mahaska, Warren and Polk counties. Proteus, Inc. is an community-based nonprofit organization which provides exceptional education, employment, training, and other services to diverse populations in need throughout Tulare, Kings, Fresno, and Kern counties. Founded in 1967, Proteus has become a leader at improving the quality of life of farmworkers and other special need populations; all the while, providing local employers with a well-trained pool of applicants. Since 1992 Central Iowa Shelter & Services’, (CISS) mission is to provide low-barrier shelter, meals and support services at no cost to adults experiencing homelessness and to facilitate their move toward self-sufficiency. Approximately 2,000 women and men experiencing homelessness have received emergency shelter and supportive services to help them move beyond homelessness each year. CISS is equipped to provide expanded emergency shelter (150 beds); expanded transitional housing for Veterans (19 rooms); and 38 Project Based Section 8 Voucher efficiency apartments. Along with expanded housing capacity, CISS also provides an on-site health clinic, food pantry, clothing closet, classrooms, and a 30-foot growing dome. All guests and residents are provided evening and breakfast meals; access to shower and laundry facilities, a weekly medical clinic, and group counseling; as well as individualized case management, life skills instruction, and referrals to other community services/benefits. Programming continues to evolve to meet emerging homeless and community needs.

The Outreach Program engages volunteers in business, civic organization, faith based organizations, schools, government agencies, and other nonprofits to package nutritious meals for the hungry. Outreach is unique in that it has 3 meals created for domestic use in the U.S. Those meals were designed by Iowa State University's Food Science department to be nutritious and tasty. A meal packaging event is a tremendous way to engage people of all ages in the fight against hunger in a festive and satisfying way.

Education and access to capable reproductive health care providers allow you to make empowered and informed decisions about your health. The Family Planning Council of Iowa connects you to family planning and contraceptive resources, as well as federally funded clinics across Iowa. Through the federal Title X Family Planning Program, the Council’s service area covers 55 of Iowa’s 99 counties. We subcontract with agencies to provide clinical services and to facilitate community education programs in local communities throughout Iowa.
