CITIZENS COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION
Fort Dodge, Iowa

At Citizens, I started as the Head Bookkeeper. Over time, I acquired more responsibilities which included almost everything that was not member/customer facing including debit/credit, ATM, computer operations, insurance, payroll, budgeting, ALM, compliance, etc. When I left I was the Executive Vice President reporting to directly to the CEO. The reason I left CCCU was due to be fired. I was always interested in owning my own business so I put in an offer to purchase a local photography store and the offer was accepted. I was fired because the CEO felt that by owning a business, I would be sending the wrong impression to the rest of the employees. Looking back, the date I was fired was the best day of my life because it opened up the opportunity that Charlie Grossklaus at RCU gave me. By the way, I never ended up buying the photography store because my loan application was denied by RCU!!! How ironic!
