The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank, believes a healthy community starts with food. FirstSteps for Kids, Inc. specializes in improving the lives of children diagnosed with Autism, PDD, Asperger’s syndrome, and related disorders. Step By Step Inc. has been providing quality Early Care & Education programs for children 6 weeks to 11 years old since 1993. Our mission is to provide every child an opportunity to grow and learn in a warm and loving environment. Our six programs are fully licensed as Day Care Centers by the Illinois Dept. of Children and Family Services. Our Alton and Brighton locations offer a part-day Illinois State Board of Education Pre-K program for eligible children. All of our centers also provide a USDA approved food program for all children enrolled.

Our History CSS was founded in 1981 by a devoted group of parents, educators and community leaders. We were established on the premise that all individuals deserve an optimal chance to live with independence, self-esteem, and personal fulfillment. This fundamental belief continues today as we have grown to now serve individuals across more than 50 communities in west suburban Cook and western DuPage counties. Our Philosophy CSS fosters a progressive, forward-thinking environment. Conversations and feedback from our participants and their families have shaped the high quality, relevant programing we offer today. Our goal is to support individuals to improve independence, develop self-esteem and become involved in their communities. All of our services are person-centered and focused on individual choices.
