The mission of Coastal Heritage Society is to provide educational experiences for the public through the preservation and presentation of the historic resources of coastal Georgia and adjacent regions. Coastal Heritage Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation founded in 1975 which operates six historic museums for you to explore and special events to immerse you in our unique culture! Perfect for adults, families, and more. Coastal Heritage Society manages two National Historic Landmark sites and four museums. Coastal Heritage Society's Tricentennial Park campus is located on the west side of downtown Savannah, and is comprised of Savannah History Museum & Battlefield Memorial Park, Georgia State Railroad Museum, and Savannah Children's Museum. Coastal Heritage Society also manages Old Fort Jackson, a historic fort located on the Savannah River three miles east of downtown Savannah, Pin Point Heritage Museum, located off of the Diamond Causeway in southeast Savannah, and Harper Fowlkes House, located downtown on Orleans Square.

Telfair Museums is the oldest public art museum in the Southeast. The legacy of one visionary Savannahian, it was founded in 1883 through the bequest of prominent local philanthropist Mary Telfair-who left her home and its furnishings to the Georgia Historical Society to be opened as a museum. Today, Telfair Museums consists of three unique buildings: the Telfair Academy and the Owens-Thomas House-two National Historic Landmark sites built in the early nineteenth century-and the contemporary Jepson Center. Each of the museum’s three buildings houses a collection corresponding to the era in which it was built. Designed in the Regency style by English architect William Jay, the Telfair Academy houses nineteenth- and twentieth-century American and European art. The Owens-Thomas House, also designed by William Jay but notably different in style, is considered one of the finest examples of English Regency architecture in the country. In addition to the historic house museum-featuring decorative art ranging from the late eighteenth to the early nineteenth century, the site includes rare intact urban slave quarters and a lovely parterre garden. Rounding out the Telfair’s trio of landmark buildings, the Jepson Center is devoted to the art of today. Together, these three unique buildings and three distinct collections bridge three centuries of art and architecture, illustrating the continuum of art and history in Savannah.

Georgia Historical Society (GHS) is the premier independent statewide institution responsible for collecting, examining, and teaching Georgia history. GHS houses the oldest and most distinguished collection of materials related exclusively to Georgia history in the nation. Chartered by the Georgia General Assembly in 1839, the Georgia Historical Society is the oldest continuously operated historical society in the South. As an educational and research institution, GHS teaches Georgia history through a variety of educational programs, scholarly publications, and research services. It publishes the award-winning Georgia Historical Quarterly (Georgia’s journal of record since 1917), maintains a library and archives, manages the Historical Marker Program for the State of Georgia, produced the two-time Emmy Award-winning television and radio program Today in Georgia History (in partnership with Georgia Public Broadcasting), and organizes the annual K-12 education program Georgia History Festival. Headquartered in Savannah with an office in Atlanta, GHS has over 6,000 members and nearly 200 affiliates in 80 counties.
