CALIFORNIA INDEPENDENT SYSTEM OPERATOR
CALIFORNIA INDEPENDENT SYSTEM OPERATOR
Folsom, California
500+ employees
The California Independent System Operator (ISO) manages the flow of electricity across the high-voltage, long-distance power lines that make up 80 percent of California's power grid. We safeguard the economy and well-being of 30 million Californians by "keeping the lights on" 24/7. As the impartial grid operator, the California ISO opens access to the wholesale power market that is designed to diversify resources and lower prices. It also grants equal access to 25,865 circuit-miles of power lines and reduces barriers to diverse resources competing to bring power to customers. The California ISO's function is often compared to that of air traffic controllers. It would be grossly unfair for air traffic controllers to represent one airline and profit from allowing that company's planes to go through before others. In the same way, the California ISO operates independently—managing the electron traffic on a power grid we do not own—making sure electricity is safely delivered to utilities and consumers on time and reliably.

CLEAN ENERGY SYSTEMS INC
CLEAN ENERGY SYSTEMS INC

Deploying technology that makes 'Power without Pollution' a reality. Safe, reliable power that doesn't compromise the environment: It's been our mission since the beginning. Clean Energy Systems has successfully transitioned proven and reliable rocket engine combustion principles into a flexible and economically attractive energy generation system for our planet. CES technology enables cleaner and more efficient co-generation of power, steam, water, and CO2 and offers the world a new perspective on the way we assess the value of natural resources. Our core competence allows us to precision engineer complex and intricate technology solutions that meet your needs, be it in combustion, partial combustion, heat transfer, or other applications. Among others, it enables us to precisely control the conversion of a wide variety of fuels with oxygen in oxy-combustion processes. Oxy-fuel combustion generates a drive gas composed of predominantly steam and CO2. This uniquely efficient process allows our customers to profitably utilize fuels that would otherwise be marginal or uneconomic for commercial energy generation. Facilitated through partnerships with our customers and shareholders and enabled by an exceptional research and demonstration facility, CES has developed and built a unique product portfolio. Centered around customized precision-engineered components, our portfolio encompasses 20 to 200 MW steam and CO2 generators, drive gas reheaters, steam/water separators, pressurized heat recovery systems, 30 to 150 MWe expander turbines, and more. These solutions are ready to fulfill our customers' needs for zero emissions power, enhanced oil recovery, and the expansion of natural resource assets.

Energy distribution is teetering on the edge of unreliability. Dynamic energy management is the Apparent solution. Headquartered in Novato, CA, Apparent, Inc. is a dynamic energy management and technology firm founded to address efficiency gaps in clean energy generation. Our unique software and connected hardware combine to integrate and aggregate clean energy in a big win for the triple bottom line: people, planet, and profit. Apparent technology Our proprietary Intelligent Grid Operating System (igOS™) — a cloud-based, machine learning platform — monitors generation and demand to manage energy in real time. Apparent’s data-driven energy management solutions employ machine learning to collect data — and act on it — four times per second. This sub-second, bidirectional control autonomously senses across distributed resources to optimize available energy balanced with demand — increasing efficiency by up to 60% behind the meter with complete waveform energy — real, reactive, and apparent. Apparent benefits: The technology is complex, and the science behind it even more so, but the benefits of dynamic energy management are clear. Apparent’s intelligent grid technologies: • Integrate with existing systems. • Increase the efficiency of clean energy generation. • Provide accurate real-time data on generation and demand. • Reduces energy usage and saves money. Traditional supply and demand solutions rely on estimates derived from prior usage data. This practice — known as “load following” — cannot keep up with skyrocketing demand. Dynamic management takes the guesswork out of energy generation. Apparent, Inc.’s intelligent grid technologies identify and act upon real-time data to produce a complete waveform of energy — real, reactive, and apparent. We are invested in building energy efficiency with renewably sourced, low cost, real-time carbon reduction technology. Learn more at apparent.com. Dynamic energy management is the power to enhance our energy future.
