The San José State University Research Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation established to enable and promote externally-funded programs that further SJSU’s comprehensive educational mission, impact, and public benefit. Each year hundreds of local, state, and federal agencies, businesses, and private foundations partner with the Research Foundation to engage SJSU faculty and other university specialists in basic and applied research, public service and community projects, consulting, and other specialized educational activities. Program sites are located on the SJSU main campus, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, NASA-Ames Moffett Field, downtown San Jose and several national and international locations.

The California School Employees Association is the largest classified school employees union in the United States, representing more than 250,000 school support staff throughout California. CSEA members perform a wide range of essential work in our public schools and community colleges, including security, food services, office and clerical work, school maintenance and operations, transportation, academic assistance and paraeducator services, library and media assistance, computer services and more. CSEA was formed in 1927 when a determined group of Oakland custodians came together to support an elderly custodian who couldn’t afford to retire because public schools had no pension plan for such employees. This small group of custodians saw the need to gain rights and benefits for themselves and other school employees, and began the organization to achieve this goal. Through this initial determination, CSEA proved to be an organization that would stand the test of time. In 2001, CSEA members voted to become an independently chartered union of the AFL-CIO. Today, CSEA continues to thrive as a member-governed union, democratically run by member volunteers in nearly 800 local chapters throughout the state. The union is led by the CSEA Board of Directors. Labor Relations Representatives and other professional staff work under the authority of CSEA’s Executive Director. We are proud of our contributions toward California’s future, and we strive everyday to carry out our mission to improve the lives of our members, students and communities.

Founded in 1976, Valley Montessori School is a nationally recognized model Montessori school providing excellence in education for children 18 months through 8th grade. SEAL (Sobrato Early Academic Language) is a powerful English Learner-focused approach to education rooted at the intersection of research and educational equity. The bedrock values are a commitment to further developing the intellectual and linguistic genius of young children’s brains, honoring the value and role of a family’s culture and language in students’ lives, and helping teachers cultivate the skills and mindset they need to become powerfully effective educators. SEAL is inclusive of all students, creating an environment where children engage together in rigorous, joyful, content and language-rich learning. The Sobrato Family Foundation invested in the design and pilot of the SEAL model, which was led by Dr. Laurie Olsen. A 5-year evaluation of SEAL found that despite starting school with language and academic skills behind their peers, SEAL students catch up or surpass peers on all measures, from language and literacy to math and science. Major findings show statistically significant gains in language, literacy and cognition, as well as a significant impact on family literacy. SEAL already partners with educational leaders across California, in over 100 elementary schools across 21 districts, and in over 130 preschool classrooms within 24 preschool local education agencies, working to transform the system by providing professional development, curriculum support, and technical assistance for educators. SEAL is helping English Learners turn their home language into an asset. SEAL provides a clear pathway for California to meet the vision set out by the comprehensive English Learner Roadmap policy. With over 10 years of practice and research that demonstrates an effective model, SEAL fosters systems change in two ways: by continuing to transform more classrooms, schools, and districts, and by advocating for state level changes that focus on English Learners’ needs.

Central Valley Opportunity Center, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) employment training and service provider serving the California counties of Merced, Madera and Stanislaus. CVOC is funded primarily through federal, state and local grants to serve farm worker and low-income populations.

ABC Northern California (ABC NorCal) is a nonprofit trade association dedicated to serving construction professionals from Fresno to the Oregon border. Our mission: To promote free enterprise by advancing the merit shop philosophy in the construction industry through education, advocacy and business services.

Cristo Rey San José is a Jesuit, Catholic high school that empowers students from underserved communities in San José to be people for others who are prepared spiritually, academically, and professionally to complete college, and who will become accomplished leaders committed to a lifelong pursuit of learning, faith, and justice. What Makes Us Different: The Cristo Rey Work Study Program: Every Cristo Rey student works one day each week in professional, administrative roles at partner organizations. In turn, the revenue they generate funds up to 50% of their tuition! Students receive professional training at school and are prepared to contribute at their workplace on day one. Current partners include Cisco, CBRE, Kaiser Permanente, NVIDIA, Bristol Myers Squibb, Morrison Foerster, and 90+ more. Cutting Edge Learning: Cristo Rey San Jose's academic model uses cutting-edge technology to adapt to individual student needs. Each student is given a Chromebook computer to aid instruction and use online portals for their classes.
