St. Mary's Dining Room responds to poverty in San Joaquin County by feeding the hungry, caring for health issues and restoring human dignity to over 700 individuals each day. Our vision is to see a community where all are empowered and able to be self-reliant, independent as well as able to meet their physical emotional and psychological well-being OUR PROGRAMS KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM The dining room is open 7 days a week serving a hot, nutritious breakfast and lunch. A sack meal is distributed at 2 pm. MEN’S SERVICES The men’s services department is open Monday through Friday, enabling our clients to shower and receive an exchange of clothing. Haircuts are also provided several days each week. WOMEN’S AND CHILDREN’S SERVICES The women’s services department serves women and children Monday through Friday. Services include showers, hygiene products, clean clothes. Diapers and formula, when available, are also distributed to parents. MEDICAL CLINIC All doctors, nurses and pharmacists are volunteers serving the uninsured. Eye exams are also given and prescription eye glass provided free of charge to those who need them. DENTAL CLINIC All dentists and dental hygienists are volunteers serving the uninsured. Our clinic is the only one of its kind in San Joaquin County. SOCIAL SERVICES The social services department staff and volunteers provide case management for clients by assisting with applications and forms, securing emergency shelter, and referrals to other programs. Homeless Court is held once a month, allowing individuals to clear up old traffic tickets, minor criminal charges and fines. HEAD START The Child Development Council provides preschool, as well as infant and toddler programs.

For 31 years, the Bay Area's Family Giving Tree has been delivering joy to those most in need. What started as a San Jose State MBA project to help in-need children has grown steadily into an established, widely respected, nonprofit organization. Since its start in 1990, Family Giving Tree has served over 2,000,000 children and adults throughout the greater Bay Area. We dream of inspiring the values of kindness, philanthropy, and volunteerism to impact our community. With the invaluable support of our donors, sponsors, volunteers and drive leaders, Family Giving Tree leads two major drives each year. The Holiday Wish Drive fulfills children’s exact holiday gift wishes, and Back-to-School Drive provides backpacks filled with school supplies to local K-12 children most in need. Despite the pandemic, 2021 saw the successful delivery of over 25,000 backpacks and 50,000 holiday gifts. In addition, over 1,000 volunteers worked with us in donated warehouse space to make it all happen.

We assist people and their families who have been affected by incarcaration. We issue food, clothing referrals, assist with transportation, and also employment assistance.

Now entering our fourth decade, Tri-Valley Haven continues to be a vital community resource serving adults and children who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, or homelessness. We are a safe place, above all, for people who need to be protected before they can begin moving forward. But we are also a place that is committed to doing more than merely healing a life that's hurting; we are committed to helping strengthen that life, and building a culture of personal empowerment for those who are most vulnerable. We envision a world without violence. But rape, physical and mental abuse, and homelessness occur all too often - and in every community, regardless of class or color. Founded in 1984 by Gary W. Steinke, MD; Rose Kleiner, MSW, LCSW; Michael Gilfix, Esq.; and Elayne Brill, Hearts & Minds Activity Center emerged as the first large-capacity dementia-specific adult day program in the country. Since its inception, Hearts & Minds has provided services to over 6,000 individuals living with dementia and their families. As a licensed 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Hearts & Minds Activity Center operates an additional program on-site: a childcare center that collaborates with its counterpart for daily intergenerational activities. Established in 1992 as a parent cooperative for the young children of members of staff, the childcare center has since evolved into a licensed daycare, open to the public for over fifteen years.

Court Appointed Special Advocates - CASA of Santa Cruz County empowers volunteers to influence life-changing decisions for a child in foster care. CASA volunteer Advocates are everyday people, trained by CASA and then appointed by judges to advocate for the safety of children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect. Advocates are fully supported by a staff supervisor and are part of a team that works in the best interests of the child. CASA volunteers devote 2-4 hours a week getting to know the child and gathering information from everyone involved in the child’s case. Advocates stay with each case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.
