Crosswinds began in 1974 in response to community outcry over the discovery of several graves in the area containing the bodies of teenagers who had run away and had been murdered. The community reacted to the shock of this tragedy by opening the organization's first program -- an emergency children's shelter -- and vowing never to let this happen again. Today, the Crosswinds shelter program is still providing a safety net and a new beginning for Brevard County's youth and their families.
