Practice primarily focused on the firm's medical malpractice and professional regulatory defense groups. I helped to prepare healthcare providers with their defense in matters before the Montana Medical Legal Panel, and would defend providers in administrative hearings against licensing complaints. I have also extensively researched and briefed various legal issues pertaining to healthcare law in Montana, including the sufficiency of experts and the scope of the privileges governing Montana's quality assurance and peer review committees. Other practice areas included a wide range of civil litigation. My representation in these matters was primarily on behalf of insurance companies, but extended to aggrieved plaintiffs in some instances. I have also represented employers in administrative proceedings relating to unemployment insurance benefits, have taken and defended depositions, and have successfully argued and won countless motions for summary judgment. I have also extensively briefed and won multiple matters on appeal before the Montana Supreme Court. Representative cases include: Christman v. Clause, DV-17-97 (2018): Obtained a unanimous defense verdict in favor of local business owners alleged to have violated Montana's Uniform Commercial Code. Jury deliberated for less than 15 minutes on the third day of trial. Roos v. City of Miles City, et. al., 2019 MT 103N: Obtained summary judgment in favor of the City of Miles City and other public officials in an employment dispute, defeating various claims for negligence, abuse of process, spoliation, defamation, and alleged violations of Montana Anti-Intimidation Act statute (upheld by the Montana Supreme Court). Somers v. RJC Investment, Inc., et. al., 2019 MT 101: Obtained summary judgment in favor of two local Billings’ businesses on the grounds that Montana’s Retail Installment Sales Act did not provide individuals with a private cause of action (upheld by the Montana Supreme Court).
